long cranking/engine noise

new 2010 6.7 seems to excessivley crank over even on warm starts truck has 1500 miles and has happened 3 times already. Cranks long enough that i turn the key back to off position, seems rough (heavy engine vibrations) when the problem occurs. Also the engine seems to get louder periodicly almost raps, not sure if its normal or not i'm used to a pos 6.0 powerjoke that never ran! So i'm not trying to pick my new one apart just not up to date with the cummins yet. Anyone else experience this yet? Love the truck though

thats a good question. i have about 1800 miles on my 2010 and it has happened to me 3 times so far also. i have had other diesel trucks that occasionally when starting not all cylinders fired up at the same time and then after a few seconds the rest would fire off. it almost sounds like the same thing but the tap start keeps the starter engaged until the ecm receives a run signal.I may be wrong but thats what i am thinking.

Good point, like i said it does seem to shake pretty good when it does crank over for the extented period of time, but you would think it would at least fire a little bit even if all cylinders werent fireing(if that makes sense) but once you turn the ignition to off position and try again it starts instantly. Just curious if it could be a fuel or electrical issue, i would think if it was serious it may throw a code, maybe not though? How many time has yours gone through its re-generation process and what did it get the filter % down to? Mine has done it once and came down to 70% and completed itself.

I have never stopped it when it was over cranking i just let it go. its never lasted more then a few seconds. i have never seen my truck actually tell me filter full or say that it was going through a cycle. i have noticed that on occasions when i am driving and watching the fuel economy screen while i have the cruise set and the mpg goes down to about 10 and the last time that lasted for about 20 miles then it came back up.

On my 08, it will do the same thing if I try to start it quickly. If I wait a couple seconds all the stars and the electronic karma lines up and it will fire right off. This is unrelated to glow plugs, but it works.
