Initial oil change

What is the general consensus on the initial oil change on a new CTD? Should it be at the normal interval, or early. In the past I have always done the initial change at about 1000 miles. I have noticed that most, if not all of the manufacturers are recommending the normal interval now. Just wanted to know what you guys are doing and think.
Thank - you
Paul

I only use synthetic oil and want the dino out asap. On all new engines I do my first oil and filter at 500 ml...20 hrs on smaller engines. Five hundred miles may seem like too soon but I also run the waste oil through a filter paper as I want to see what comes out, so far nothing.. but at least I know there is nothing. Oil is cheap in comparison.

I have a 3500 dually 2014 new with 2400 miles towing a boat and hauling a truck camper. Oil is black and thick but no oil lite has come on indicating a need to change. DO I NEED TO CHANGE THE OIL NOW?

Ok, personally I would go 2-3k miles before the first oil change. Add your favorite 5w-40 or 15w-40 motor oil, high quality filter and call it a day.

IMO the break in oil should be R&R no later than 5000 miles just to be safe. There is a bunch of wear and mating going on in a new motor, and the oil and filter get contaminated during this process. Additionally I prefer synthetic oil for many reasons, so this is also a good excuse to change it out. Doing an oil/filter change is also much cheaper than replacing a motor much sooner than normal, and it's good peace of mind for me knowing that it's fresh and any metal that might have been in there during the break-in, is gone. After the initial fluid change, it's every 10k miles for me, with just a filter change at the 5k mile mark. I also R&R the fuel filter at 10k miles also....the new high pressure systems with tiny spray holes in the injectors don't care for any debris going through them.
