Cold Radiator Cap
Hey all!
I am wondering how many out there has noticed their radiator cap is cold after letting the EGT's come down or is this not normal?
99% of the time I wait until my EGTs are below 350 deg F before shutting down. Here lately after reading posts about HG failures, I've been keeping tabs on everything a bit more than I normally do. Things such as the overflow reservoir isn't bubbling, no oil in the coolant, no coolant in oil (verified using oil analysis), etc. My truck does not overheat, but I have noticed over the last few thousand miles the thermostat will on occasion go up to 207 deg F and opens once it sees 208 and drops to about 197 then mostly hovers around 199. I know this is not a concern since it is doing what it is designed to do since the range is from 186 deg to 207 deg F. But I think it is strange that the radiator cap is always cold. You would never have a cold radiator cap on a gasser up to temp.
Is this normal, should I go ahead and do a radiator flush or other maintenance actions (thermostat)? I am approaching 52K miles, so I know some maintenance items will be do soon - but should I start looking at these items sooner rather than later?
Thanks!
