Coming from 350k on the 01 the 17 is certainly nicer but you already know that. One thing I miss for sure though and it is double edged, is the sound of the exhaust and engine though i don't miss the in cab noise. My wife tells me she can't hear me coming anymore. Again you already know this but while all the electronics provide a nice experience it has all these electronics in it. However my 01 compared to my old 74 chevy truck had a lot more electronics on it as well. All in all I really do like the new truck not sure yet that I will have the same relationship with it as the 01 but time will tell maybe I am just older now. It is just a truck. I bought the thing in mid December and already have 24k on it hopefully it lasts as long as the 01 at least as long as I had it. It is still going strong sold it to my BIL who is quite happy with it so far.

Pay attention to the gearing. It makes a lot of difference in how much it can pull.
It also makes a difference in when the trans will go into sixth when towing. Very often when trying to keep speed down due to limits on my travel trailer's tires, the 3.42 gearing in my 2017 would make it ride along at 60-65 mph in fifth even on flat roads.
A great advantage of the new trucks is the exhaust brake. After using it this summer to Alaska and back, I would never, ever tow heavy without one. If I had to use my 2005 for a long heavy haul, I would go out and get one!

Looking at the daily posts, the frequency of Gen 3 and 4 posts are greater than issues with the Gen 2's. Might have to do with more 3's and 4's being owned these days, but the increased complication and emissions do create more issues and expense over time.
The 2001 still works for me (as soon as the South Bend clutch is installed). It isn't bullet proof, but what is? Also, I don't have $60-70,000+ tied up in it.
