PU bed on a 3500 CC

Ok been lookin for a new truck to haul my 15k camper. Started thinkin about a CC. Talked to a dealer today and was told I can put a PU bed on a CC. Is this true? It looked to me as though the wheel base was to long for the PU bed. Are the CC's built tougher than the regular Dodge?

Also how do you guys like the CC's and how are they holdin up for ya? Not sure if I want a manual or automatic trans yet? I have a five speed now with an exhaust brake. Does a great job, does the exhaust brake work just as well on the auto?

Oh almost forgot what kinda milage are you guys gettin? What rpm are ya turnin at say 60mph?

Thats enough for now thanks for the help

We have a 3500 C/C for truss delivery. Total trailer and truss weight up to 18,000#. GVWR up to 26,000#. 6 speed Aisin auto tranny + exhaust brake is terrific combo. I will eventually have another for personal use with my 12,000# 5'r.

What kind of a bed to you have on the cc now? If it's a flatbed do you think a fifthwheel hitch will go on it height wise?

I was wondering how the ebrake would work on an auto? I have on my my ole five speed stick and it works great. Didn't know if there was enough slip in the auto to make it brake well.

Thumbs, I always heard the rear axle on the C&C was wider than the one under a standard PU. I can't verify that, it's just what I was always told.

It'd be fun to get a CA 2' longer to add a 10' box, like that blue project truck.

Never even gave the width of the axle a thought. I just figured they were the same. I'll have to check the specs on the cc and regular pu's. I think the length is good @ 60" c/a. The dealer told me he could put a pu body on the c/c. I know it was a dealer but in other info the guy was right.

Ya know nothins easy. I found one measurment on the 08 commercial guide that tells me the distance from center of the two rear wheels to the center of the two rear wheels left to right is 73.6". Any one have a measurment on the pickup dualy?

We have a flatbed with recessed goose neck hitch on our truss delivery C/C. Flat bed is probably too high for a 5th wheel hitch. I was going to look into an RV bed for my personal C/C, but that Warner truck bed looks good. 52 gal tank is nice to have. And yes, the exhaust brake works really well with the Aisin auto.

PU bed on 5500's

Yes mine is 54 1/8" for the inside of the tires and 92 1/4" outside of the tires and the box is 96" wide so that will give me an over width of 1 7/8". So I comeup with 73 3/16" CToC.

Ok what is the width from side to side from between the dual tire to the other side between the dual tire. In other words the measurment I have in the specs for the c/c is measuret in the center between the two wheels to the other side between the the two wheels.

.l-73.6"-l

Hope this drawing makes sense

PU bed on a 3500 CC

Thumbs.

I came up with.

00----------00
l <73".1875> l (73 3/16")

I bought a pickup box for $4500.00 no tailgate with it so that will be extra. I shall be making the changes but will have the have an engineers stamp on it before it gets made. It will be fairly straight forward. I even have an idea for making a taller canopy.

Ok thats probably the same. Anyway I stopped by another dealer this afternoon. He had a couple of 3500's and a couple of 4500's one with a flat bed. It looks to me that after my lowering the fifthwheel legs down about three inches I will be about 2 or three inches high if I use a flat bed. I think it will be close enough.
