Busboy, the 22 gallon midship is too small and the 52 wont work with the pick up bed. I went to these guys and they make a 40 mid tank that fits the cab and chassis. http://www.transferflow.com/fuel-tan...lacement-tanks

I wasnt real excited about losing the 52 gallon tank, and there was no way i would drive with the 22 gallon. They make two kits. One to replace the 22 gallon, and one to replace the 52 gallon. If you order from ram, the option is 150 more to get the 22 gallon tank. Transfer flow sells the 22 gallon replacement tank 150 bucks cheaper, so it is a wash. The 40 gallon bolts up right where the 22 gallon is. just alot longer. The tank arrived and it is heavy and big.
Two years ago when the 11's came out, I was going to build this same exact truck but make it a dually. The tank was the reason I stopped the build. Heck its 100 miles to the cabin and there was no way I would stop to fill up on the way home. Now i have options. |
That's too bad you can't keep the 52gall tank, my son does a lot of driving overnight when many fuel stops are closed, he got caught the other week towing a goose trailer with fairly expensive equipment on it and didn't want to drop the trailer. Not that it would have made any difference at that point, he was on fumes and a couple of fuel stops he tried were closed so he found a place to pull over and called for road side assistance. This was his first time ever and he found out they would only bring him 5 gallons..[laugh][laugh][laugh]
He decided to wait where he was until morning, soon after an oil worker in a pick up with a slip tank pulled up to the locked gate across the road, my son took all his $30 cash and camp sandwiches and traded for some fuel. The guy declined the camp sandwiches. [laugh][laugh] Anyway he needs a "large" fuel tank. |
Any updates fellas?

Hi Guys. New to this site, but been in the trucking biz. I'm in the process of ordering a new Dodge 4500 and trailer for hotshot work. RIPOFPWRSTROKE, I am looking into your tire and wheel setup. Any more info you guys have would be helpful. Thanks!!

Truck has supposedly shipped and will be here on the 17th of May. I just ordered the kelderman air suspension on tues so that completes everything. Jut waiting for the rims, bumpers, and now air suspension to arrive.

Did you order the rickson wheels? How did you figure out the offset needed for the deck ou are putting on? Also what tires did you decide to go with?
I'm on the fence to do the same, just unsure of which tire to use, I've been researching the continental Mpt81's but the general consensus seems to be that they only last 20 000 miles. Toyo mt,s in the 40"x13.5x20" have a load rating of over 4000lbs which is plenty for my truck, and have a 50000 mile warranty. I'm very curious as to what you do with the setup, and deck. Please provide lots of pics, and good luck!! |
^^ What he said, I want to watch someone else do the work for a change..

Also, ordered dump valves after i heard how they can be mounted and that will help me out when hooking up. |
Hi ridof,
If you check out www.koreraceshop.com, the Kore racing suspension people; they have flared front fenders for dodge trucks. They don't list the 5500 as one they supply but I think the 5500 may receive the fenders the same way as the lighter trucks. The fenders look great in the pics and maybe they would help your truck up front. I'm looking forward to watching what you do. I had a 2012 5500 with a 60"ca that I just sold I had Rickson wheels and tires on it but I stuck with the dual wheels. I had a 9' EBY aluminum flatbed on it. Hope it goes well for ya. |
They dont make them for long bed trucks. THe rear is the issue. The front is ok. Plus not a big fan of the way that looks.

Sorry
|
Sounds like a great ride! I look forward to updates as they come in. Will the kelderman air ride de-rate the carrying capacity of the 5500?
