Vibration/Buzzing at idle

2500 SO Auto 4x4
I'm getting a buzzing type sound that sounds like it's coming from the center of the dash (or in that general area, I can't pin point it) and I can't find it for the life of me. It only does it every so often for no appearant reason. I can be sitting idle (Park/N/R doesn't matter) and bump up about 10-20 rpm's and it goes away, let off and it comes back. It's driving me nuts becuase it's rather loud and annoying. I thought it might be the AC but turning it off doesn't stop the noise either. Anyone have this problem. Thanks.

Re:Vibration/Buzzing at idle

As a matter of fact, I just noticed it last night.

Sounded like it was coming from dead center in the dash.

Turned radio off, still there.
Turned AC off, still there.
Closed cup holder, still there.
(cup holder has been known to rattle around previously)

Put my finger on the glove box and it stopped.

Opened glove box, shut it and it was still there.
Re-opened glove box, shuffled stuff around, and it went away.

2002 2500, probably not the same thing, but worth a look.

Re:Vibration/Buzzing at idle

probably a resonance. If you can blip the throttle or change rpm and it goes away it usually can be repaired easily. Start grabbing stuff and wiggling and you will eventually find it. Wiring looms have been known to buzz. You gotta remember this is a diesel and diesels have some vibrations. HTH

Re:Vibration/Buzzing at idle

Newbie- Just entered the world of diesel- Same thing happens to mine. tried same things..shut off ac, radio. Still there. Not all the time. I'll give it a few more miles (375 now) and see what happens. Maybe someone will figure it out before me (that won't be too difficult). You guys are great.

While it is buzzing give the dash a thump in various spots with side of a closed fist. If the buzzing stops momemtarily then it is just a matter of tracking down what is causing it. No guarantee, but put pressure on various places until it stops. It could be a pain to track down but with perserverance you should find the cause.

Mine does it, only with a cold engine, once the engine is warmed up the buzz goes away. And only get the buzz right off idle. Traced it to the CD in the CD player. No CD, no buzz.

Simple. Drop a Marty Robbins CD in there and turn up the volume on the 240 watt amp.
