underbody access holes ??

I've just received my new truck and I'm going over it looking for some of the small issues so many of you report. My question is in regard to the underbody access holes. I thought I read here somewhere that they're supposed to have plastic closures. Mine have fabric tape over them. Am I dreaming? Does anyone have the part # for the lids/seals/closures ?

Yes, I have the in-cab smell problem, 70 MPH vibe, one slow window, and the above mentioned item...... so far.

But it really is a nice truck !!!

Mine has the plastic closures. The #'s have been posted here before, but its been a while. If no one posts the #'s, try a search.

I still smile everytime I drive it - what more can you say?

I spoke with my Dealer about the holes. Apparently they used plugs up to 2002 and for whatever reason changed to tape, proably to save some $$. They were checking on the availability/cost of the plugs. I haven't heard anything yet.

Mine is a 2003 and has the plugs. A guy at work just got himself a 2004 and it has the tape. I pointed that out to him, so he asked his dealer(how are friends of his) and they told that they were no longer available. I think they are just yanking his chain and don't know any better.

Hey, the part number is #04860953AA and you need 16 of em.

My salesman ordered them for me at no charge since they are shown in the factory service manual as being part of the truck.

The page in the manual that the parts guy looked up had this across the top:

"SDR - Body Sheet Metal Except Doors 320 - Plugs, Quad Cab"

The description is "PLUG, Drain"

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the part number. One more thing to order before the big day. At least the plugs should be one of the few things that don't cost an arm and a leg. Does anyone know if they can be popped in from below, or is it an "inside" job?

Very easy to install from below the truck. Just pull the tape off and pop in the plugs. I did mine last night in about 20 minutes. I took extra time because I used "Goo-Gone" to get the adhesive residue off.

Looks like it's 'sposed to now.
