I know somebody on here has em. I wanna know what is a good brand and how much a complete set up will cost me. I need everything. All the hoses, compressor, horns, tank and whatever else I may need. Also would like to see some pics of the mounted horns. I want to mount them in the frame rail somewhere. Any help is appreciated.

I can get train horns at a truck stop that I go to for $150. That is just for the horns. Any body ever bought any horns from a truck stop?

 

Iv thought about them for my truck.
Granted the stockers arent the loudest.
Id like to find some that wont give a heartattack when activated.

As an afterthought, is it me or are the stock horns louder when the key fob is pressed then when the horn is actually used??

 

I never noticed that loudness of the stock horn, I hated the sound of them. Currently, I am running around with a good ole OOOOOOOOOOOGA horn in the factory horn location. I really want to do train or REAL air horn, but can't justify that kind of money for a horn. Folks that have train horns, where are you mounting them, and as always.... pics please

I did a custom setup buying parts and had a hor already, it is a big sucka, off of a 1951 diesel train,,,,,,, I used a big 8.5 gallon air tank, and all 3/8th shop airline hose. half inch ball valve as an actuator. it is honkin awesome! I went to viair for compressors, the twin 380c setup cost me under 300 bux, but I can run air tools and air up tires.... heres a pic of the horn, more pics in the gallery,,, by the way , the pic of the compressor in my gallery is the one of the old compressor I had, that did not make it.

 

That is cool. I bet it's heavy too that looks like cast iron at the back. How in the world did you ever manage to get a real train horn? Someday just for fun I'm gonna put on either a train horn or a Peterbilt one on but it's not high up on my priorities.

 

I put a 3 horn set up on one of our Pete's, it was around 250 clams for the horns and a 1/2" , quarter turn ball valve on a chrome pedastill. I had to use my own 1/2" air lines and hardware,(appx $325.00 all done) The horns are mounted under the bunk on the drivers side, they are scary loud, they actually shake the ground.

 

Again, watch my favorite junk store, Harbor Freight. Bought a set including all lines, 2 horns, relays and compressor (small) for under $30 bucks. Loud about 135 db. Problem is still sitting on my bench, trying to find a place to mount them. They are plastic but they are quite loud andlongest one is about 9".

As much as I think I would like to have a train horn...they just sound SWEET...I think that I will leave them to trains. A fella back home years ago had a train horn on his truck and was messin around and trying to get some girl's attention and blew his horn, scared a little 3 year old boy to DEATH, he tripped out into the street when he tried to run away and got hit by a car. I know that it's a pretty unlikely thing to happen, but if I didn't know my TOTAL surroundings and was trying to show off (which is the reason to have one) and caused something like that to happen, I wouldn't want to live anymore. Just my .02

 

I just installed a Viair 380C compressor, 3 gal. tank, 200psi switch, and triple horn. Put them on the passenger side railbelow the front and back doors. The compressor is 100% duty cycle, good to run my nail gun. The horns are louder than SH&%!!!!! The train horn is fired by the horn on the steering wheel.
Got 'em from Siege Engineering on e-bay, total setup shipped and installed is ~$375
