Traded in my 05' F-350 6.0 for 07' 2500 5.9 today.
I just traded in my 05' Powerstroke F-350 Dually in for an 07' Dodge 2500 5.9 4X4. It was kind of a hard decision as the Ford was a King Ranch edition, lifted 6", a really beautiful truck with all the bells and whistles.
My first impression of the Dodge is that it's very smooth and queit. I also got about 17mpg. during the first 100miles. The 6.0 was very problematic, in 60K miles I wen't through 2 sets of head gaskets and one set of heads. Average fuel economy was around 12mpg unloaded. I really wanted to get one of the remaining 5.9's since they have such a great reputation and after all the probs. w/ the 6.0, the newness of the 6.7 was bothering me. I never trusted the Ford after it stranded me on the hwy. a few times. Plans for the 2500 include a 2-3" leveling kit, some larger tires, a quad zxt, cold air intake, and possibly a muffler delete pipe, not too mention some side steps, bed rails, etc. I'm looking forward to scouring the boards for all the CTD info. I need to learn. Nate. |
Welcome to the DTR!
Glad to see another convert. Enjoy your truck, those CR trucks are really easy to turn up with just a few simple upgrades. |
Congrats! Welcome to DTR. I see it's too late for you, you've been bitten long before you came here. The Cummins is a great motor. You'll like it alot more than your Ford. Plan a big budget for mods. You'll need it.

smartest decision you could of made.

I traded in my 05 f250 on a 06 2500 best decision I ever made!! MPG is great compared to 250 and the power pulling is better.

Thanks guys, I used to really have the need for the dually as I was pulling other trucks out of the sand at work, transporting plywood, etc. Now I am spending 500-600 miles a week traveling to jobsites, occasionally pulling a trailer w/ 10-12K lbs. of block, and weekly towing of my drag car to the track.
The 6.0 with the 4.30 rear and 5spd. auto always pulled fine, but the poor economy and horrible reliability commanded the switch. I also looked at the new chevy hd's, very nice trucks, but I got this 2500 4X4 w/ leather interior for $34,500 after the rebate. Any comparable chevy was going to be at least $10K more. As far as modding, I'm gonna keep it mild. I really lost a lot of ride comfort and such when I wen't with the 6" skyjacker lift on the ford. It was always shaking, death wobbling, eating rotors, etc. I am missing the sweet turbo whistle, so I think an intake kit will come right after a trailer brake controller. Dodge should really make the trucks w/ the brake controller built in, the other oem's do. I am very excited about some good mpg's and not being stcuk on the side of the road w/ a $50K truck spewing coolant. |
WELCOME TO THE DTR!!
For the intake, do a search for 53 Willys WHISTLER intake. Going to build one myself here really soon. |
Go with a good 2 or 3 inch lift and 35's and your ride will improve. Search out Carli, defiant, and Thuren. The dodge is also cheap and easy to lift.

Welcome to the club and welcome to DTR!

Welcome, welcome, welcome!!!

Welcome aboard. There are a lot of converts including myself. After 3.5 years with my 2500, never looked back.

I just traded my 04 6.0 two weeks ago for a 2500. The cab is definately smaller, which with a baby is a bit of a PITA, but the motor pulls well. Doesnt seem as sporty as the 6.0 with throttle response, etc, but has a nice smooth torque response. so far, I am very happy with the rig.

Wecome to the DTR. I traded my 2002 CC F-250 7.3L PSD for my 06'. Not sure why sometimes. For the most part I love it but I do get a lot of flak from family and friends about getting rid of the best PSD ever made ("last year of the good ones") and that Cummins is a great engine but Dodge doesn't have the best chassis like Ford has (whatever that means). I love the smoother, quiter ride of the Dodge and I don't get fatiged driving it like I did the Ford.
I am hoping that the 06' and 07' Dodges are the " last year of the good ones". That is the biggest reason I bought mine, because I new that Cummins was changing to the 6.7L and I wanted a tried and true 5.9L. Good luck with yours and again welcome to the family. |
A King Ranch to a Laraime? That'll take come adjusting to. I wonder if the King Ranch seats will fit in a Dodge?
