Tow Hooks
Tow Hooks
Has anyone made thier own tow hooks that mount in the stock location?
My truck didn't come with them and I didn't want to wait on delivery to have them installed... Now I have had 1 too many times when I've needed them... and have been thinking about buying some because I've seen them for about $100 to $125...
But, what fun is that... I may just make my own and curious if anyone else made that decision too?
If so... Pics? Suggestions?

I havent made any, havent heard of it either, BUT if you decide to buy stockers, search the forum, there is a guy who makes some extenders for the hooks, brings them out past the bumper a bit. I put stockers on mine a while ago, but they are so close to the body of the truck, I have to add a shackle if i want to pass a chain or strap through. so the extenders are next on the list for me.

Yeah... I saw these in northern tool and got me started thinking... Ring is made of 1in. stock... With a Safe working load of 15,586 lbs. and a Breaking Strength: 46,760 lbs.
The inside mesurment is 4" x 3"...
2 of those hanging off the front I should be able to hook up to most anything...
and @ $12 a piece... I can get some large flat stock and make some heavy duty bracketry....

man, that would be sweet if you got those mounted. might be interesting finding the right type of bracket to mount that to the truck though, gotta be something pretty sturdy.
good luck!
good luck!
My brothers a machinist... I'm going to talk it over with him... and draw it all up... Probably have him or one of his guys do the welding... (I can stick metal together, don't mean it's the best and/or prettiest weld)
If I do go this route I'll take pics and post...

just made myself a set of extenders out of an old i-beam i had laying around. my extenders are a little longer-7 inches to be exact- they will make a nice step! it has been too cold lately- hopefully i can get them on in a couple of weeks
