Thermometer question

Does anyone have any idea if there is a company or a way to get my Thermometer past -40c or -40f (they are both the same temp). I was driving home last night and my Thermometer in the cab stopped at -40c. When I checked my house thermometer it was -45c (-50f). That was the average around town that I heard of, so my house one wasn't out by 5c.

No ideas here. I'm sure the thermometer has limits.

Have you ever thought of moving?

When it's that COLD does it really matter?

I mean it's like me asking for one that goes to 125*. Once it's that HOT who can tell a difference.

It would take some research but I bet you could figure out who makes the sending unit and see if they make it for colder temps like yours, I think you'll lose some on the high end though? How hot does it get in the Yukon?

They must build houses like a fortress up there for those temps. I thought 4F was cold here last winter. How much insulation is used during construction?

Saint, last winter mine showed down to -43 but maybe it's just that it was so cold that the readout didn't know what to do I have to admit that I love going out around -40 and just having the noise of the snow squeaking under my mukluks to keep me company!

I know, I'm sick and I need a doctor

I'm pretty sure that the houses are built the same as everywhere else, we just use diesel heat and have heat tape all over the place so that our water doesn't freeze. As for summer temps, last summer it got up to 37c (100f). This is my first winter up here, and when you start getting colder than -40c then things start happening to the truck (power steering pump freezes, fan belts snap, you actually have to wear a jacket inside the truck). I'll talk to the Dodge dealer in Whitehorse and see if they know of any solutions.

Thanks

James
