tail light advice

I shattered one of the tail light lenses on my truck the other day. I was pulling trees out of the ground and the bolt holding the chain onto the tree sheared!

Does anyone have any experience with the import tail light assemblies on ebay? I havent called the dealer yet, but I'm expecting they're going to want a lot more than the $50 you can buy knock-offs for. Thoughts?

Any advice on how to take the assembly apart? I havent looked closely, but it looks pretty tough to get the tail light assembly out. Any advice on that?

Thanks guys

I ordered a replacement fog light from this place. I was a little concerned about aftermarket replacements, too. This place was about as cheap as I could find, but they shipped promptly, and once installed I could not tell it from stock....

I haven't seen their tail light assembly, but if it is anything like their fog light, you will be pleased.

Easy to get off. Just drop the tail gate and you will see two torx screws holding each taillamp to the truck bed. Tke these out and gently give the outside of the lense a little tug and the pins will release from the clips inside the bed and there you have it.

Just had mine out to install l.e.d. taillights, like travist says, make sure you pull straight out from the truck, if you pry sideways you may snap the pins, i found you had to give more than " a little tug" to get them out but they eventually did come out without breaking anything, take your time and it should go well.

The ones I got, I needed to take off the mount that is on the back of the original covers that the lights plug into and then install that mount on the new cover. Not a big deal. You wil need to give the covers nice tug to get them off.
