I use Jergens hand lotion on my steering wheel. So far no problems. One question though, if you had a '03 with the molting steering wheel will the dealer update with the newer '04 style steering wheel?

I don't know how Armor All would soak into the leather, but for safety, I urge people not to try it. The bottles have warnings not to use it on any surface that requires a desireable grip. Makes things too slippery. I Armor-all'd a shift **** once, and missed a shift while being stupid one night. Hand slipped right off the **** pulling 3rd to 4th, wound up back in 2nd. Ouch. Having the steering wheel slippery doesn't sound fun.
I had that problem once on a date in high school... only wasn't second I ended up in... I Finally had to stop and take care of the problem.... not that I minded...

the leather gets rough and starts to peel off little by very little, you can deffinately tell when this happens. i had a 95 1500 that did the same thing, now my 03 is doing it, im sure glad i found out about dealer replacing it, now all i need is for them to replace my stupid ash tray, it won't stay closed, any others have this problem???

Was it worse on the top where it's exposed to the sun or worse where you grip the wheel?

It's from where you grip the wheel. I wore through my Jeep's wheel in under 20K... wish I would have thought about getting a new one under warranty, but that would have been toast by now too. I think those of us that have the habit of making tight turns by pressing the palm of our hand on the wheel (usually at about the 11 o clock position) and using that contact patch as a pivot point as we rotate the wheel around very fast have the most problems. It's a very efficient way to turn fast while traversing rocky trails, but it does trash the steering wheel pretty quickly. Basically, it's the same as turning the wheel with one of these: but without the hassle of having to grab a ****. Those of you that use the hand over hand method of turning will be a lot less likely to develop this problem in such a short amount of time.

Armor All - N E V E R use Armor All. It has a silicon base and that will do very bad things to everything.

If you want a safe replacement, use 303 Products. It is great stuff.

http://www.303products.com/main.php

It may be hard to find and cost more that other stuff but, at least, it will not cause cracking etc...
cheers f
