steering wheel pops

I have a 2006 reg. cab 4x4. In the mornings when I back out of my parking spot my steering wheel will make a popping noise when turning. I don't fill any binding and its not hard to turn.I just wanted to know if anyone elses does this?

Mine doesn't "pop" but groans when I have shut it off and restart shortly after and make an immediate turn.

Are you applying the brake with the wheel turned full lock. When it pops are you rolling into or out of the curb to approach in a driveway.
What your describing sounds like the steering stop noise from a dry stop itch. Back of the wheel a 1/4 turn and see if it still makes the noise.
If it stops, grease the front wheel stops and it will correct this little problem.
And if your to lazy to grease the stop. Just back of the wheel and wha-la. Hope this helps.

If it is the same thing mine is doing, it pops when you first turn the when and only happens a few times afterwards. Not at full lock either, just at the beggining of the turn. I can't figure it out either. I had read somewhere that the steering wheel bushing was junk and that may be it. But if that was the case, why does it stop after a few turns?

Dr.Diesel, Not pulling away from curb just backing away from the bush I park by. Foot on brake just a little so I don't back into my barn or tractor and not turning to full lock. Just serviced truck on monday and greased it.It sound like tauberson wrote just make a few pops in the moring and it's good for the day, kind of like me just the trucks under a year old and not 42. Was just checking to see if anyone else had ever herd a noise like that on thiers?

My 06 Mega pops too. It only does if it is cold or has been sitting for overnight. It only pops once or twice and that is it.
Hopefully it's nothing serious....

Mine does it to every night when I pull out of my parking spot from work. Only once. My Dads WJ does the same thing but all the time and there is a TSB for it. He's just not had it done. I figure maybe its the same thing but not to concerned.
I just realized I am on the Dodge forum not Jeep, WJ is Grand Cherokee

Mine does it too, complained about it once while at dealership for another issue, nothing was done about it. Anyone got their's fix or know what causes it, would like to get fixed, very annoying. Like everyone else said only the first couple of turns after sitting for a while.

Exclamation

That sounds like the intermediate shaft joint between the box and the base of the column. You can look at the joints. Grab the shaft and have someone move the wheel to see if it pops. If it`s that, you should be able to feel it too.

Does it feel like it's in the steering wheel or the suspension? I had a popping while turning once and due to a suggestion from Greg Boardman I tightened down the track bar bolt where the bar mounts to the frame on the driver's side. I really torqued that sucka'. Problem fixed.

mine did it when the bushings on my track bar went out. they looked good, but if you looked underneath while turning the wheel from lock to lock with the truck running, you could see it "POP"
