Steering different for 2wd?
Steering different for 2wd?
In my quest to decide between 2wd and 4wd, another item has come to my attention: rack and pinion steering. Is it true that the steering differs between these variants. If so, is it that much better in the 2wd? This may just may be the final nail in the 4wd's coffin.
Yes, It is rack & pinion stearing. The one benefit with this stearing compared to the 4wd is the tighter turning radius. Is it better can't say because they are two totally different types. 4wd and 2wd enough said.
I really don't think you should base your decision on the steering linkages. Both work well for their intended applications. Rack and pinion is fairly new in the truck world, so they might have failures down the road, but who knows. FWIW
Spots,
Oh, it wouldn't be deal breaker - only a factor, especially reading some of the threads about steering pulling. I assume those to be related to the 4wd models.
The main factors pushing me towards 2wd are: price, maintenance, price, ride quality, price, bed height for my 5er, price, and did I mention PRICE?
Seriously, I just like the looks of the 4x4 but so many (3500 to be exact) reasons to get the 2wd . . .
Thanks for your input.

Hey you don't have to convince me. I think DC's 4x4 system (from a tech's point of view) on the 3rd gens is poorly designed. More rotating mass= more vibration=more noise=more wear etc. If a 4x4 was necessary for my job I would have bought a Ford gasser (6.0 are too troublesome IMO)
