Steering Box Stabilizer

I don't normally rave about parts, but I am making an exception in this case. I just installed the Custom Diesel SBS and the difference is amazing. I never thought that this "simple" mod would make sooooooooo much difference. I was actually running at 75 on I-87 with hands off the wheel and my truck staying rock steady in the center of the middle lane. I'd have sworn someone switched out trucks on me.

If there was only one mod I was allowed to make on my truck, this would be it

Totally shocked and amazed.

Nice. I put that stabilizer on my Christmas list. Hopefully Santa has room on his sleigh!

Once you get that puppy installed you'll wonder why it took you so long to do it!

While I haven't seen the "miracle" you have..... I've seen enough stock boxes fail, especially with larger tires/offset wheels to STRONGLY recommend them. Have yet to this date see a box fail with one installed.

Try www.custom-diesel.com , they have their own site and may also do the ebay act. I think I paid $119, incl shipping.

Yea prices are going up. I looked at them last week and they were at $110 shipped, up from $105 shipped.

I know on mine the sector shaft had a goodly amount of radial play so I would guess it all depends on how much play there is. If your box is tight then the less noticible the steering box support will be. I still have a hard time trying to understand the small size of the steering box on the 2500. The box on my '95 Mercedes E300D is stouter. What were those engineers thinking?

Thanks... Looks like they re-listed some on feebay but I'd just assume buy one direct and save them some money on fees.

Which version of the Smarty did you get, and why? I will be in the market for one when I sell my .243 "tack-driver"! I plan on staying stock, with some "minor" upgrades. I was under the truck Saturday and noticed the PO installed a 4" turbo back system. So, I guess I'm not bone stock after all

Single best upgrade to these trucks lifted or not, love mine, tightened up the front end better than new, and easy to install

built my own, and I also felt that it was the best mod I have done so far. It helped a LOT!

I've been looking at stabilizers and Custom Diesel in particular. Almost half the price of BD (although they are catching up fast). Has anyone had any problems with the C.D. stabilizer? So far my steering box is tight, and I'd like to keep it that way. Looks like it would help prevent the dreaded frame cracks too.

For the $119, it will be one of the best insurance policies you ever take out!
