Removal from storage...

I have a 2007 5.9 4x4. It has been stored for 2 years in a non-climate controlled storage facility in the somewhat mild climate of the Atlanta area. This vehicle was in pristine condition with only 15,000 miles on the odometer when it went in storage. I placed it on jack stands, aired down the tires to around 8-10 psi, stabilized the fuel with biocide and a couple of other appropriate additives(drove it for several miles to circulate fuel through the injectors and topped it all the way off again), and removed the batteries. The oil was in good shape(low miles plus a FS2500 by-pass filter). I basically didn't mess with too much more. I'm going to be taking the truck out of storage and putting 2 new batteries in anticipating it to start and run well. Is there any reason to suspect that this won't be the case? I was planning on driving it 25 miles or so prior to changing the oil as the storage facility is that far away from where I can change it. Should I be concerned about the oils and other fluids after a 2 year stay in storage? Should I anticipate other problems? Any input is welcome and appreciated. Thank you.

Sounds like the truck should be in pretty good shape. If all the fluid levels are good, 25 miles should be just enough to get it warmed up and ready for some fluid changes. Do all of the regular maintenance stuff (diffs, trans, engine, fuel filter etc.) before putting any more miles on it than necessary. If you can, throw a new fuel filter in before you start the truck. If you can't. put it high on the priority list. Hope all goes well !

Thanks, Gatorama. I was thinking the same thing. I have an oil, fuel and oil by-pass filter waiting for me. I think I'll do the fuel filter right away like you suggested.

You should be ready to roll. Have filters on hand just in case. I bet you're excited. Reminds me of the first day we pull our bikes out of winter storage. Its exciting!

I am pretty excited. Sitting overseas looking at diesel mags is great, but also drives me crazy. Looking forward to it.

Also, cycle the pre-heat mode several times to make sure fuel is full-up in the fuel filter container, then light it off. Have fun.

I'll be back in June for a short stay. Long enough to run the truck and see some friends.

If I cycle the pre-heat function several times, can I skip pre-filling the fuel filter housing up with fuel?

Cycling the Pre-Heater will also run the Fuel Pump to fill the Filter Cannister...
