question on Modulite install

I'm looking to get a Modulite 119176 for my 06 3500, and after reading all the posts on installs, I still have a question. I always use the 7 way plug on the back of the truck, so I wanted to wire the modulite into that. Do I just t-tap into the stop and turn wires at the 7 way plug, or do I cut the truck wires at the plug, and splice the modulite into the cut wires. In other words, do I re-route the power to the plug completely through the modulite, or in addition to the vehicles wiring? i'm trying to protect the truck from trailers with shady wiring or overloading.

Thanks!

I just cut the wires going to the 7-pin and used butt-connectors to attach the Modulite. Not all the wires of course, just three of them (L-R-Tail).

Can be seen the second pict in this post:

The thought had crossed my mind to buy a female 4-pin and run the Modulite in through the 4-pin flat on the truck. I was worried about sending power back through the FCM, so decided against it.

Col, thanks! I had seen your post, but didn't read it well enough. I just looked at the pics, and the last pic lookes like a tail light plug, and not the plug for the 7 pin. Out of curiosity, what part number did you buy? Thanks again!!

Yes, I probably should've mentioned that's the plug in the back of the 7-pin receptacle.

I got the "HD", or 119190 I guess, and the wiring kit.

(BTW, the only reason I got the wiring kit was because I ordered both off ebay it was cheaper in the end the way the shipping worked out. Otherwise I would've just pieced together the wiring components from the local auto parts store.)
