Problem with brake lights

I got pulled over this past weekend because my brake lights were not working. Luckily for me he was very nice about it and just pulled me over to let me know. Had he not pulled me over, I would have never known I had a problem.

So both of my rear brake lights do not come on when I press the pedal. However when I use my blinker they will blink fine. My center brake light over the cab comes on with no issue. Any ideas where to start looking?

your turn signals and brake lights are different bulbs. You should have dash warning 'lamp' if a bulb is blown. If you dont have that then its not the bulbs. First would be to check the fuses, then take the tail lamp assembly off and check the plug and connections. put a meter on the pins and have someone hit the brake and check for 12vdc.

I'm surprised the Lamp-out didn't come on. You sure they're out and the "female" officer wasn't just trying to get your phone number. *wink wink*

No lamp out is on. But I will still double check. I would have a hard time thinking that both sides went out at the same time though.

Anyone else???

Ok.... So trouble shot a little...

With the Truck off:
Push the brake, overhead light brightens, but the taisl do not fire at all.

Turn on the blinker and they work fine. Push the brake, same as above.

Turn on headlights. All lamps fire. Push the brake, overhead brightens, tails remain the same.

Truck started:

Identical results as truck off.

Any ideas? Go figure I am 3k out side of warranty.

Fixed it. Even though the conducter on the lamp was in tact on both sides, and the blinker worked, the brake light portions was burnt out. Replaced lamps and wala.
