peeling paint
peeling paint
My son has a 2003 Ram 2500 similar to mine but is experiencing large chips of paint peeling off the primer. The color is black. I searched the posts and discovered early 2003 builds had a peeling problem. Most of the other complaints were on thin paint but not peeling paint. The dealer states the warranty is expired. Has anyone had any success on extended warranty coverage on this issue?
i believe paint warranty s 2 years/24,000 miles. the only way to get something done after that is if d/c admits a factory paint defect in which case you pay a deductible and d/c re-paints the affected areas. my brother in law had his early '90's gmc jimmy repainted in this way- good luck.
I don't have it with me right now, but I am sure that on my '03 a few months after I got it I received a letter from Chrysler advising there may be a problem with the paint and that they were extending the warranty on it. I'll go see if I can find it.
Alright, I found it. In summary here's what it says:
"...some vehicles could have a contaminated primer that could lead to inter-coat adhesion failure of the exterior paint finish. If the paint on your Dodge truck should experience an inter-coat adhesion failure within the 10 year/160,000 kilometre (100,000 miles) period, simply contact your dealer to have the paint finish repaired free of charge (parts and labour)."
This letter also provides the following address if you want more information about this.

Good Luck. Let us know how it turns out for you.
