Oops I Did It Again!!!!!!...... New Truck that is.....

Well I did it once again....

Went out on Tuesday and bought a new 2005 Quad Cab Red Dually 4X4 Cummins 600. There was nothing wrong with the one I had. In fact it was almost identical to this one with the exception of the automatic transmission and the new Cummins 600. I never minded shifting gears in the old one but I have to admit that this new automatic sure is nice.

You might remember a few weeks ago that we traded in a 2002 Jeep Liberty and got our head tore off because of the depreciation. Well this truck did great! I couldn’t be happier with how it held its value. The list price on the 2003 Dodge was right at $42000 and we had if for 1 year and 10 months. The trade in value was $30500 that is not much depreciation if you ask me. In fact this new truck listed for almost $44000 and we are paying less per month for the same terms because of the equity that we had built up in the old truck. I know that it is mainly because of the Cummins but I am thrilled.

As of right now I have 102 miles on it. I can already tell that it is going to do what a bunch of other people on this forum are talking about. Fuel Mileage that is. Around town the overhead display is showing 13 MPG. That is about 3 MPG less than the old one got when it was new but I figure it will get better with time. (I know… I only have 102 miles on it). I also got the 3.73 gears instead of the 4.10 so that should help in the long run.
I’m still leery of this new transmission but I have my fingers crossed. I haven’t heard of a bunch of problems on here with it so I feel a little better than I would have the first year it came out.

I will try to post some better pictures of it in the next few days.

SCHWEEET!! I was gonna say... it looks just like your other one. For a minute I thought you posted the wrong pic! Nice truck man, I really dig your shell/rack combo.

Gotta love that new truck smell, that's why I keep swappin' for new ones.

What prompted you to get a new one?

I went the opposite direction with the tranny than you did... not that I had any probs with the Auto or anything... just heard so many good things about the manual (i.e. reliability, mileage, etc). Anyhow, I do miss the way I could get up to speed so smoothly (not to mention quickly) with the auto. They're both good IMO.

Anyways, congrats on the new ride! Glad you got a good deal... I was pleasantly surprised on the trade in value of my first CTD as well. We'll have to race to see who gets the next new one... I'll be gunning for this one next... https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...threadid=50646

Oh yeah I forgot to mention why I traded the other one in. My wife just found out that she is pregnant with our first baby. I figured that this is the last new ride that I will have for a while so I better get a good one. I sure didn't need a new one but it sure is nice.

I'm like you.... I love the new car smell.

I really should have bought a 2500 like yours. I really don't need a dually but I just like the cool factor. It would have made buying larger tires easier and less expensive though.

VERY nice truck by the way!!!!!!

I will be standing in line for the Mega Cab!

I like it I like it, I want one I want one. I just can't justify it right now. With only 23,000 miles on my 01.5 & $12,000 in add on's it's hard to let it go. But I sure would like a dually.

Enjoy your new ride. I like the color too.

Well then, an even BIGGER "Congratulations" is certainly in order!! I did the same thing as we are expecting our 2nd child in April of '05. Don't want to be stressing about vehicle woes during the next couple of years... you'll have plenty of other things to keep you busy. Might want to start stocking up on Coffee!

Ahhh, don't kid yourself, that Dually is sweet! I've seen a few really nice ones lately, makes me wish I would have gotten one of those instead! I didn't really even really need a 2500, but if you're gonna go, go big... right?

t-7, I'm in the exact same situation as you. My wife has a Liberty, but I am absolutely scared to trade that thing in and then get my a$$ handed to me. Its an 2003, and is okay, but really is turning out to be too small. I really want to get her a Magnum, but cant. At least I put the Liberty on a 4 year financing instead of a 5 year financing, and will get it paid off faster. By then, Dodge ought to be offering some rebates on the Magnum.

On a side note, I am pleasently surprised by the power of that 3.7L V6. That Liberty scoots, I tell you!!!

Yep, they scoot, but not past the gas pumps ! My wife's is lucky to hit 18 mpg every now & then, mostly upper 17's the majority of the time. Seems as if lots complain about the depreciation factor on the Liberty's right now, but the big factor is the current rebates & discounts that are currently in place. It's hard to justify (from a dealer's standpoint) to sell a 2 or 3 year old Liberty with 35-40K miles within $3,000 to $4,000 of a what a new one can be purchased for. I'm holding out for the diesel Liberty as soon as they hit the lots....my wife just doesn't know it yet !
