The job looks way worse than it really is. You might check for updated parts for the housings since you bought the truck. They are not silly expensive, and it might be worth replacing the housings and what not while you are in there.

I wouldn't really want to monkey up a 40k truck either, and I agree this was poorly designed for a vehicle of this price range. I'd like to know what the actual failure rate is.
