Is it ok to put fuel additives in a new engine? I have 1300 miles on the clock. And if so, what brand do you recommend? Also would like to know if an exaust tip of some sort would keep the soot from building up on the rear quarter panel above the tailpipe?
Thanks Wayne
Thanks Wayne
I don't think a quality additive will harm the engine, but I personally don't run an additive so I will let someone with personal experience chime in as far as what brand.
I run a Megs tip from Gino's. I chose it because it is stainless steel, and also I like the look of no clamp (friction holds it on). It doesn't quite eliminate all soot, but if I scooted it out and secured it with a screw it probably would. What soot gets on there is easy to remove, so I haven't bothered.
If you search for "megs tip" I think there were a couple of threads with photos.

As far as the soot you get on the rear quarter panel, yo can either drive faster
or try a different brand of fuel. I have noticed that when I fill up at some places I will get it and at some I don't.Right now I don't get it because of the Banks Six Gun is giving me better mileage and ensuring a full burn of fuel.

Be careful with those additives. If the additive desperses water, the fuel water seperator can't do it's thing and will allow water to pass on to the injectors. Water in our new high pressure injectors can literally blow the tip off the injector. The heartache of it is it's not covered under warranty. Best to try to buy fuel from clean stations that do a lot of business so you know the fuel is fresh. I don't use any additives and don't plan to unless it's from Cummins. But that's only my humble opinion...
