MP3 Player

I'm going to pick up my new 3500 SRW CTD tomorrow. I saw it today at the dealer's. The audio comes with an MP3 player but it is not the male/female plug type. The technician at the dealers said some type of disk would be made that fits into the CD player. I've never heard/seen one of these. Anyone have experience with this type? I'd like to know about the sound quality and ease of usage. Thanks.

Welcome to DTR

If your truck's stereo is similar to my '06 truck's Infinity stereo, the stereos' CD player will also play CDs with mp3 and similar files loaded onto it.

If you've got songs/albums loaded onto your computer, a CD write(r) drive and blank CDs you can easily create your own custom CDs to play in your truck.

If I remember correctly, a typical CD can hold around 60 to 80 songs. I haven't figured out how to load the songs so they're grouped or come up in a certain way, so searching for a song can be a pain, but it beats buying the prerecorded 10 song CDs from the store! The sound quality is as good as the file you have and usually sounds as good as a store bought CD.

Congratulations on the new truck.

Drive safe and have fun!!

I believe you are correct. I assumed (it looks wrongly so) that MP3 meant there would be a direct connection for my iPOD sothat I would be able to play songs directly from the iPOD. The way I see it now, it seems I will have to first download the MP3 songs onto a CD and insert the CD into the CD player. It looks like some of the Dakota audio systems seen on the Dodge web site have direct hook ins for MP3 players like an iPOD. Wonder why a more expensive model truck (mine's a RAM Laramie) wouldn't have a direct MP3 connection.

Use iTunes (or other burning software), burn the songs you want on a disc, and enjoy. You can fit hundreds of songs/many albums on one CD, rather than using a disc changer.

No kidding, this is kind of lame. I figure I can fit an ipod with the fm transmitter in the driver side ash tray and hook it up to the power just below the ash tray in my 05 Laramie.

I assume you have an iPod? Well, then here you go... part number 82209617AC. Buy, install, and enjoy.

If you have an '05, then use 82209616AC.
