Mounting a Gooseneck and Wiring in Bed 7 Pin Plug

I mounted my new B&W Gooseneck Hitch in the bed of my truck the other day. What a pain compared to the Ford install but at least its in a better truck. Now I need to do the wiring for a 7 Pin-Plug for the trailer lights/brakes.

My friend had mentioned to me that Dodge mounts a Harness adaptor under the bed for such plug. If so, where is it and what type of adaptor do I need?

IF not, what is the best way to tap into the existing harness?

Thanks,

Joe

Mine came with the tow package so in the rear bumper I have a 7-pin plug and underneath there is also a 4-pin plug for smaller trailers.

I'll run out and check to see if I can see where that 7-pin plug connects up to for wires.

Be right back....

Well, maybe I can't help you. I looked underneath and it has a wire harness that goes down to that 4-pin plug but it is all wrapped together from the factory and the harness goes along the frame rail up under the rear fender some where. I didn't follow it from there. But I don't see any plug per say that the 7-pin plugs into, looks complete from where ever it comes from.

sorry

I have a gooseneck hitch, brake box, and Plug in adaptor in mine. But mine was a 6 pin. It is for livestock applications, the 7 pin must be for something drawing more juice, then just brakes and marker lights.

I dont know of a harness adaptor in these trucks...If there is I did alot of wiring for nothing

If you decide to have it done, I'm having Lewis Hitch about Country Club and Guadalupe install a B/W Gooseneck and bed plug (between tailgate and left wheel well)l on my new 06'.

Normally, I have my hitch and tralier work done inTucson but a friend recommended this Tempe shop to me.

You just tap into the wires going to the factory harness. Just an FYI, I wish I had put my plug between the wheel well and the front of the bed so I could get to it (easier) when the 5'vr is attatched.

I mounted my plug at the tailgate on the drivers side. Hole saw in the stake pocket and wiring goes out the bottom with the taillight wires. Real clean and easy to reach.

The wiring harness runs along the drivers side frame rail. You can tap the same wires that go to the 7 pin recepticle in the bumper. Just open the plastic wiring cover and find the the same color wires that are in the rear 7 pin. It's easiest to do while your putting in your gooseneck hitch as you've got the spare out and your right there already.

There isn't any ready made plug under the bed for adding a 7 pin outlet inside the bed that I saw.

This thread has the wiring diagram and wire color codes of wire in the harness for the 7 pin trailer connector.

Also be sure to follow this link to information on wiring harness for adding a 7 pin in the bed like you need.
