Low Dodge Payloads
Low Dodge Payloads
I am just wondering why Dodge payloads / tow ratings are so much lower than Ford payloads for both SRW and DRW trucks. Is it just the weight of the Cummins or do Fords have stronger frames and far better springs?
The only thing that matters is your axle ratings, GVWR means nothing. As long as you don't exceed the axle ratings your fine. I think part of the reason is that the Cummins is by far the heaviest, not sure why else though.
The reason I asked is I see alot of SRW F350s with Campers on them but not as many SRW 3500 Dodges,so after a little research I see the Ford F350 SRW can carry approx. 1300 lbs more, thats a big differance when you are looking at camper weights.Just wondering if an F350 SRW is more stable than a Dodge 3500 with the same Camper weight.Maybe its dulley time.
Agreed,,,,,, If the rear tires weight rating can't handle it, what difference does it make.
Total Payload = GVWR minus Curb weight.
Can these trucks safely carry more than that? Yup.

Still glad I bought a Cummins but when I read the advertised payloads of the F350 SRW at 4100+ lbs,it leaves me thinking my god thats not far off a Dodge 3500 Dulley, whats so different about their trucks ,who or what agency rates these trucks? Is it just the company engineers?

It all has to do with a few factors, Tire weight rating, Actuall weight of your truck and the number on the door frame sticker dont mean a whole lot in the grand scheme of things, Fords are just built lighter than a Dodge, theres no way around that, its the price we pay for alot better durability.
pull what ever you want, just remember that you gotta stop it eventually and we can all pull more than we can stop in an emergency even with a **** good brake controller.

Um, proof please? That statement is very inaccurate. GVWR's between an SRW and DRW Dodge aren't even close while curb weights are with in a few hundred pounds of each other.
I've seen in the Dodge Tow Ratings (Bumper pull, 5er, and gooseneck) that the dually will only haul 200 pounds more of trailer weight. (According to Dodge) It will however carry a higher payload in the bed (Also according to Dodge)
