Key keeps loosing programming
Key keeps loosing programming
My key keeps loosing the ability to lock and unlock the doors. It still starts my truck. If I pull the battery wait a few minutes and reinstall it the key works for awhile then quits locking and unlocking the door again. This happens even with a new battery truck is a 2006 ram 3500
While the battery is out, use a VOM and check the voltage. It isn't real common, but you may have purchased a borderline battery. If the voltage is low, go buy new batteries and look for the date on the package. Good luck.

It seems you are getting intermittent voltage from your key fob battery to your key fob. Every time you put in a battery, it works for a while then stops. This is usually a bad battery or poor contacts. Pull your battery again and take some isopropyl alcohol, and with a Q-tip, clean off the battery contacts, battery ends, as well as the buttons on the pc board.

thanks for the reply. I have replaced the battery numerous times. I have two keys and this has happend with both keys. I will clean contacts and buttons. The keys are original and the fobs are aftermarket I have the type that has the screw that screws inot the key so I was thinking that it might have somthing to do with that. The last battery I replaced was new I checked the manufacturer date. I looked on amazon but having hard time finding the ones with the screw. When I got the current keys I took out the blank and put my key in. Also is a vom a voltage meeter what voltage am I looking for.
As for Voltage, look on the internet for the voltage for that particular battery. It is probably 3V. If it is too low (dunno what is too low) it won't work. How long did the FOBs work on the new batteries before having these intermittent issues?
The door lock module is a small box that plugs into the back of the instrument panel (in an '03). That is the device that reads the code the FOB is sending and, if it's the right code, unlocks or locks the door. It also interfaces with other devices such that if you drive over so many miles per hour (don't remember what, maybe 10mph), it will automatically send a lock signal to the doors. Do your door lock automatically when you go to drive it? Did it do it before the FOB issues?
When you can't unlock/lock the doors with your FOB, does the Panic button on the FOB work?
Heading back for my second cup . . .

The part you put the key ring through broke on the key that came with truck. So I bought two replacement keys put the original key in one and had the other one cut locksmith cut and programed both keys. They worked fine for awhile maybe 6 months. The one I was using stopped working so I grabbed the other one and started using it. The second one worked longer but eventually stopped working also. I thought the batteries that came with the keys were maybe cheap ones so I replaced both and it fixed the problem for awhile. If I put a new battery in and it stops working I have been removing the battery waiting a few minutes and reinstalling it and the remote starts working. When it quits working it won't lock or unlock the doors and the panic butt doesn't work
What's the story behind replacing the original FOBs? Same issue as the newer FOBs?
