On my 01 QC the key was free to remove while running so while travelling when cold or hauling heavy I could let it idle while getting a bite or filling up or whatever. my new to me 06 does not. Is that a change due to federal safety changes or was my 01s switch just worn out or what? Is this a function that can be deleted so i can pull the key and lock the truck while running?

It was just worn out. I've had a few vehicles in the past that I could do that with. Now I just keep another key in my pocket at all times, so I can leave if running and lock it up.
