How tall a tire
Tall tires
I have managed to get a set of Cooper SST 35x12.50x17" on my 06. I have a set of Fuel rims that set the tire out a little further than the stock rim did. I don't know the backspacing or offset of the wheels. I do get a very slight rub when turning sharp and going thru the gutter into some places. Thought that I was going to need a level kit, but it appears not. Good luck with the search.
I have found this link very handy in trying to figure out tire sizes for fitment.

This enabled me to save some money on my kid's Jeep. Everybody told me 2014 Grand Cherokee wheels and tires wouldn't fit the 2002- but when I compared the actual sizes, it said they were nearly identical. I gambled, bought the takeoffs and mounted them up- even though they are a bigger rim, they fit perfect, and no rub. So maybe that link will help you.
As for my 2006 Ram- I'm running a set of 2014 Ram Laramie Aluminum rims with factory Firestone 275/70r18 tires and it looks like they were factory fitment. These are 2 inches taller than the stock Michelin tires I've always run in the past (these are 33"+ tall)- but they don't come any where near rubbing. You would be safe with 35" tires if they are narrow enough (better for snow anyway being as you're "way up north"). If you are on a budget at all, look around your area for some take-offs. I had to buy new lug nuts as the new ones don't fit the older trucks, but I'm super happy with my taller tire, low price tag, and ease of fitment (not to mention aluminum in a salty winter area)!
