There is no rivets on factory pads.Manufactures don't want owners destroying rotors if possible.

The rears apparantly do last a lot longer. I replaced my fronts at 95,000 and they could have made it to 100,000. The rears are still looking good at 140,000.

I recommend replacing them with OEM. The stock pads last a long time, will take some serious abuse and they don't damage the rotors.

I put 91,000 on mine when they needed replacement ,they were already used when I bought the truck. Had been used for towing.

That's good to know. If there were some, I'd have been grinding on them at 40k.

Later............

Just did the fronts- 46,000. I drive up and down a mtn with an auto. STILL....should've gotten more miles but I have NO idea how the bloke who owned it first drove for the first 27,000. Hopefully will get more mileage on these.

I changed my fronts around 48000 mi. and had to turn the rotors because one caught some steel. I replaced mine with the NAPA premium pads that were about $70. I have a little over 20000 on those so we will see? I tow a 10-12k Toy Hauler once in a while. I was surprised they went that fast but we do a lot of stop and go driving.

? Are the Factory "Value Line Pads" any good ? Why would they make a Cheaper set if they were as good as the regular Factory Pads that came on the truck? Some dealers did not tell me they were quoting "Value" Pads when giving prices so beware.

Does anyone remember the member who had a how-to Brake Job write up in his member gallery?

There was 140,000 KM on my first front set before i changed them, changed the rotors too, they were pretty burnt up. LOL. and i just did my rear ones at 207,000 KM the front ones get the wheels REAL dusty but i have Ceramic pads in the rear and have not seen dust in the rear yet! There a little more $$$ but no dust! I think they were $180 CAN. for the set. got them at Car quest.

I just had my wheels off and was looking at the pads. What does a worn pad look like? What am I looking for? And How do I see the inside pad? Do I have to pull the brake caliper off?

no, just look for the pad part of the shoe, it would be the part from the metal on the back to where it touches the rotor. and u should be able to see both without takin the calibre off
