How to adjust the parking brake?

I did a search and couldn't find anything. Lately i have been noticing when when i park and set the parking brake it no longer holds the truck. I have to force the pedal down a little more or leave it in gear. So my question is do i need to adjust it, replace a stretched cable or replace the shoes?

I have never had to dink with the parking brake on a rear disk truck, but the manual says that the cable tensioner should not need to be adjusted unless those parts have to be removed/replaced.

There is a star wheel accessed through the typical plug in the brake support plate. In substance, it looks like you raise the rear of the vehicle w/parking brake released, make sure there is some slack in the front cable, and remove the plug and use a brake adjusting tool to turn the star wheel until drag is felt. Then use a screwdriver to hold the adjuster lever away from the back side of the star wheel, and back the star wheel off with your brake tool until the drag goes away...

Though brakes aren't usually a warranty item, I see your truck is pretty new and unless someone drove around with the parking brake on, it seems strange it wouldn't be working properly unless it was misadjusted to begin with... Maybe the dealer would be willing to take care of it for you? (Can't hurt to ask)

I had to have mine adjusted at 46k, wouldn't hold the truck. Let me echo Jeff in TD, your sacrifice is noted and my sympathy and prayers go to you and your family. -Rick-

Thank you all for your sympathy.

I hope all i need to do is adjust it. Now that i think back my friend drove the truck and he pushed the pedal almost back to the firewall, i bet that has something to do with it.

I had a related issue this past summer... My ebrake pedal started to go all the way to the floor, but still held the truck? I went to the dealer, they charged me $90 bucks to fix the problem. The repair lasted 2 days, long enopugh for me to get 600 miles from that dealer, and the pedal is again going all the way to the floor, but still holding the truck..... What gives ????????????
