Over 90% of my miles have been Innerstate and 68% of my hours were on the Innerstate.

jj,

exactly what are we looking to do with the sensor, advance or retard the timing

would it be affected by altitude

i normally have a 4000 ft change in altitude during my commute

I'm just shy of 3000 miles now. Got 14.6 (hand calc) on my first tank, 16.2 on the second. The trip computer is showing 19.3 at the moment which, based on comparisons with previous tanks should result in just shy of 19 mpg. I do a lot of moderate-speed rural highway cruising with lots of moderate grades - 50-55 mph seems to be a sweet spot.

I'm thrilled.....would be more so if diesel and gas were more closely priced, but mpg wasn't the main reason I bought the thing.

New member here and just could not help but to want to reply to this thread. I have a 2005 2500 CTD 610 Quad Long Bed. I have to admit I am very impressed with my fuel mileage so far. In the city I get between 18 and 21 MPG, on the highway at 75mph I get a solid 18.9 MPG, at 70MPH I get 19.5MPG, at 65 MPH I get 21+MPG and when towing depending on speed I get between 12 and 14 MPG. Trailer weight is close to 11k.

I have made no mods, I have 16.5K miles on the truck (bought it new in May 2005 with 25 miles on it) and the mileage hasnt changed much since the day I drove it off the lot. All fuel mileage calcuated manually not obtained from onboard computer.

Towed my horse trailer with two grown horses(est.weight about 9k)on two lane blacktop, some interstate(max 70mph)and some heavy traffic stop and go.To south georgia and back. One tank and hand calcuated 13.7. 20k on truck. I think thats pretty good.Overhead showed 14.3 That included stopping for lunch and hunting a address etc.

Say Burner, what does your overhead mpg read cruising at 75 mph?

At 75 mph, I believe my 04 is getting about 19 to 19.5 mpg. I was hoping my new 06 4x4 would come in at about 18 to 18.5. As stated by everyone, it takes about 20K to know where you stand.

Thanks.

Bought an '05 2500 CTD Quad 4x2 SB three weeks ago. When I bought it, the overhead showed 12MPGs. Been through a couple tanks and hand calc shows 16 & 18 MPGs city (overhead has been moving upward slowly but steadily and is at 16.2 and climbing right now). Traded in a 4.7L 1500 that only got 12 MPG, so even the mileage I'm getting now is truley appreciated.

I am worried though. I had been on another dealer's lot and drove one that read 22MPGs on the overhead. Didn't buy that one because they wouldn't come down at all off sticker.

The dealership I ended up buying my 2500 from was in rural Texas, so there wasn't any high pressure sales tactics. Salesman has been driving diesels since he had a license and his dad has been driving diesels years before that.

He had mentioned that 22-24 MPGs city for the truck would be expected AFTER breaking it in. In all honensty, even though my mileage has been coming up, I don't really see it happening without mods. Ordered the Rokktech this morning. Hopefully that might start to push it along!

You need to reset the overhead and drive it.If NOT and it did lots of low speed and idle time etc.it TAKES forever to bring a average up.I reset my at least every tank or MORE if I'm curious about conditons etc.I could set mine up to show 22.4 but its not a valid average BY FAR .

Correct fuel mileage on many 04.5 and newer Dodge CTD's sucks, literally. My current truck has 40k now and the mileage has not improved.

According to Cummins, the 03's did the best mpg.

I am at 15K miles with my 2004.5. If you drive for good mileage it will deliver every time. Empty at 60mph 22.5+ MPG, 70MPH 19.5MPG. Towing my 4000lb boat @ 60mph it will do 18+ mpg. My mileage has steadily improved as the miles have accumulated and I have swiched from the factory lubes. However if you ask the truck to put out 610 ft lbs of torque very often you will not get 20mpg. BTW this truck always gets better MPG than my old 85 ford with the 6.9 did (and it is so much more fun to drive)
