Have my first real problem after 83,000 miles. My air conditioning after several hours will act as if my blend door is broken. I will loose a lot of force from the vent on recirculate. Air is cold and it sounds as if something is blocking the air flow by approximately 95% although you can tell the fan is running at full speed. I can stop and leave the engine turned off for 30 minutes or less and everything is okay. Then everything repeats.

 

sounds like frozed up coils to me, the waiting period allows them to de-ice, if its humit in your neck of the wods leave it on recirc so the air in the cab is all that passes over the coils. once thats de-humidified thats that...nuff said. leave it on fresh and youar de-humidifying all the great outdoors!

If im on a longin trip i only go to fresh air for 5 mins avrey houar or so, you know the cab co2 contant can get so high on recirc you git sleepy, thats why you start to yawning and can get dangerous if youar get sleepy.

 

Check the refrigerent charge. When low it will cause the evaporator coil to freeze and block air flow.

Many have this problem amoung blend door and recirculate door problems. The ones that dont probably will develope one or more of these malfunctions eventually.
Lol, this is one cheesy air conditioner. Its a wonder they dont have class action lawsuits on account of this.

 

Could be the infamous fin sensor too. Check the lines under the hood when it quits blowing - you may find they are frozen solid. Mine no longer freezes, it just leaks the refrigerant out every 6 months and 3 DC dealers haven't yet been able to find the leak.

 

cmnsdsl, are they still working on yours under warranty? They worked on mine also and said the found the leak but didnt. I suspect they were just stalling me off till the warranty expired. I recharged mine myself the last time it quit cooling. I'm thinking about putting a can of dye in the next time and I suspect there will be a next time even though I used the R134 with stop leak in it.

 

I also have the same problems with the ac system. I've read numerous posts about the ac working good on the l vents but warm on the r. vents. i'm going to tear into my truck to see if i can find the problems. If i do i'll post my findings.

 

mine, a little over a year ago, started doing the warm on pass side cold on d-side thing. i took it in under warranty, and after a week they said it was just a little low on freon and recharged it. worked fine up until a month or so ago (out of warrenty now) then started doing it again. yestersday it wouldnt cool at all but its cooling again today. im gonna shoot a can of freon in and see ifg that takes care of it....must be a slow leak somewhere....

 

on my son's 03 our mechanic checked a/c with dye and did not find a leak. recharged system worked good for about 3 days. mechanic did another leak check and as he pressurizing system he heard a hissing sound coming from the accumulator. turns out the accumulator has rust out under the paint. Paint looked fine until you scrape away some then find that the tank is rusted and perforated like a cheese cloth and leaking. So check those accumulators just a thought.

 

I was driving my 2003 ctd home today on the interstate and realized it was not blowing very hard even on the high setting. The fan was blowing hard but the vents were hardly pushing any air. I popped the hood when I got home and saw the lines on the passenger side (Sorry, not very familiar with A/C systems) were covered in frost. I have noticed in the past that I get a large puddle of water on my garage floor after running the A/C on hot days where I park. It seems like an excessive amount of water. Any insight?

 

As stated above have the refrigerant level checked. It was frozen up. If that is O.K. then the fin temp sensor will have to be relocated on the evaporator.

 

Sounds like most of these are problems with the fin temp sensor, exspecially after four hours of driving. Do not forget to check the wiring going from the cabin control switches to the front of the truck as they may also be loose. A true A/c technician should be able to find a leak in the the A/c system when using the recover and recycle method for checking the A/c system. Adding freon is not fixing the problem but putting a band aid on it instead. Hoping it will go away.

My NEw 07 Blows really cold air but I noticed when NEW that it will drip COndensation water from the normal spot under the passenger side wheel and ALSO out the front near the water pump. Freaked me out at first ( Thought it was the PUMP) but stuck my hand in there and it was clean cold water. I followed one of the AC lines all the way from the evaporator all the way to where it connected above the water pump. That was the low spot and it dripped. I was told over and over from people on here and dealer it was normal. IT DOES cool very well. Any thoughts there????? ONCE IT gets to running temp and driven awhile, it will only drip water from the Wheel Well side, not the front of the engine.... It will leave a good sized puddle even if driven 2-3 miles with AC on...

 

Condensation is normal. My old 76 and 86 Chevys would freeze all the way back to to compressor. It when you see the frost and have no cooling in the cab that you need to worry about the a/c system as there may be a kink in the line.
