heat only working on passenger side
heat only working on passenger side
ok my dad has a 03 four door dodge 1500 and i am borrowing it while i get the trans done in mine and the heat only works on passenger side the driver side just blows cold air any ideas how to fix it its freezin in the mornin on the way to work i look like idiot with my jacket on and hood up thanks
I'm assuming it has dual climate controls?
Anyway, I agree. Likely broken blend door.
Replacement involves evacuating the AC system, draining the coolant, and taking a bunch of trim and wires off along with dropping the steering column in order to remove the dash as a unit.
The actual HVAC case is quite simple. An upper and lower half, a middle section, and a recirculation section just screwed together.

Here's a thread that links to instructions on removing the dash, and it has photos showing how the HVAC case is assembled.

It sounds like often a broken door starts with a broken stop on the case, allowing the motor to push the door until it strips or breaks.

A broken Recir door will allow cold outside air to move to the passenger's floor. If the door itself is laying in the bottom of the box, it can't block air from outside. This floods the passenger floor with cold outside air, This is most easily diagnosed by removing your glove box and looking/feeling around the top right side of the hvac box. If the door is laying down, it's broken. You can retreive the broken part by removing the blower fan.
That's what caused the cold air on the pass side floor of my truck.
