Hat Holder
Hat Holder
I just purchased one of the spring loaded hat holder that mounts to the roof of the cab. Is the top 2 layers of steel or 1? It wuld be hard to wash with screws stickingout of the top
In my quad cab I have a overhead liner not a steel panel. So I would not drill through the liner unless I put a piece of ply wood behind it so the screws could bit into that instead of the roof. Looking at your truck in your signature, I would say you should have the same as me. From the service manual for an 05 the only sheet metal is on the roof and in the stamped ribbing that is welded to the roof panel.

I think it is a bad idea too. You would need to remove the liner and backing and add some kind of mounting surface to the backing and support. I took one of my spring loaded hat racks and mounted it to a firm sheet of plexiglass and strapped it behind the passenger seat. As long as no one is in the back passenger side the hat is sitting safe and easy to get to from driver seat.
. The Quad Cab interior is not designed for hats, rifles and shotguns as far as I can tell. Caught a site on the head rest and nearly pulled it off. Had to strap down the rifles to the back seat with cargo straps to keep them from bouncing around.
i mounted my spring loaded hat holder to my roof. I removed the center (mid cab) light and screwed it in using a self tapping screw (maybe two, i dont recall). then i put the light back in place. the spring end is at the light end and it opens towards the front of the truck....so....it backwards of how you'd normally mount it. the screws i put in go into a roof support, obviously, so it doesnt penetrate the outside
i can take a cell phone pic later if thats not clear as mud
