Well yes and no and also 'depending on the dealer'.

The recall was just for the steering stabilizer. Many guys still did have to pay out of pocket for new linkages. Some dealers did replace linkages altogether. Others didn't. There wasn't any real clarity or continuity of the recall or the parts that should have been replaced across the entire board. To say the least it was a half-hearted attempt on DC's part to acknowledge something but still squirm out with as little responsibility as possible.

MMMMM I never heard that. I'm pretty sure the notice they sent out included the drag link, tie-rod ends, and adding a stabilizer. Which my 07 did not have. My 08 is only physically 1 month newer. It didn't have it either. The dealer did the recall and later told me they did it. That's why I wore out 4 tires in 5000 miles. It's a long story. But either way, the replacement was twice the size of the original.

Maybe there was a second recall my truck was not involved in? Maybe it was regional, depending on the factory the trucks came out of?

The notice I received was the H46. So I took my truck down to the dealer. He looked underneath and said "You're good". A month later I had the truck in the dealer again replacing the entire linkage.

I believe the visual inspection of the steering damper was the tell tale sign of change in linkage design between the Y and T style. I believe you are correct that the recall involved the drag link, TREs, steering damper and pitman arm. But only on the 3rd gen trucks built with the new style linkage.

All us folks with the old style were told we were "You're OK" with the old style based on the fact that it was some new style linkages that had gotten a bad run of parts. Never minding that the old style had DW problems of their own. Also, linkage parts were superceded with a different design. So those that had to replace a TRE for example on the old linkage were required to upgrade to the new linkage out of pocket if you were out of warranty.

Really, the steering linkage issue has multiple branches so to speak that needed attention. One is the DW issue that seems to be present with both the old and new linkages. The other is the run of bad parts (that were recalled) on the new linkages.

To be honest with you I don't remember all of it. I've never had any issues other than the brake rotors rotting off the trucks. But they all do that when not used allot.

It's been replaced since. I had a little mishap back in April. . . .

I did see they are using a tubular trailing arm now, not a stamping. Makes me wonder about that now. Tubular is stronger

Willing to bet you need a trailing arm. Not a bearing.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason on the wobble. It's random. I doubt it, but I wonder if it's chassis twist. Meaning it left the factory like that

I'm just going to buy Lorenz adjustable control arms when my piggy bank swells some more. LOL! My local Dodge independent shop has been installing lots of them to guys who beat their trucks up pretty bad with good results. Thuren and Carli offer some fine ones also.
