First Major Problem!
First Major Problem!
I can't believe it ??? Here I was bragging about my new truck to a friend and he pointed out that the shift pattern on the shift **** was rotated slightly to the right. Imagine my embarrassment :'( I tried to straighten it but the **** would not move sepparately from the shift lever. Now what do I do ???

BTW, 5,200 miles and this is the ONLY problem
I've had! I'm HAPPY ;D ;D ;D

The Boss Hog - FIF
(Freezing In Florida)

Hey, that's SOP(Standard Operating Procedure) on the 6 speeds!! Mine is on it's 3rd complete revolution!! D-C hasn't started charging extra for it....yet.

I consider it an anti-theft device.
If someone wants to steal the truck with the shift pattern upside down, how's he going to find the gears real quick to make the fast get-away? ;D

iron peddler

Boss,
Wow what a problem! I just can't believe it. The same thing happened on my 01.5. It is an easy fix. Use a small screwdriver or a rounded kitchen knife to carefully pry out the shift pattern button. Inside you will find a nut. Tighten it up and carefully reinstall the shift pattern button. ;D No harm, no foul.

This brings back memories of my brothers new 1992 manual when the stick just came off in his hand as he shifted. Had to take it to DC to fix.

He was very close to the dealership when it happened. He parked it and walked into the repairs shop with it in his hand. I laughed.

Anti-theft device? WOW!
OF COURSE!!!!! ;D

Iron, thank you very much for straightening me out. I had a sneeky feeling that DC had done this on purpose. Now I can get that discount from the insurance company ;D ;D ;D

Thanks again,
The Boss Hog, Happy once again ;D

Reminds me of an old '41 Ford coupe I had back in the mid '50's. I moved the gearshift to te left side of the steering column. Ended up being quite an attention getter. To shift to reverse you pulled the lever back and DOWN. HeeHeeHee

Well, when I got my 2000 the pattern was straight. It has now almost completed on full revolution in the last 90,000 miles. I can't move it otherwise, nor can I move the shift handle. It must just float around. It moves to the right. Stranger than fiction. No other problems , not even a lift pump yet!, can you believe that?

Dave

HEY HEY GUYS!!!! ssshhhhhhh Don't tell DC. I think we have found a much better anti-theft device than the stupid - errr, I mean smart key thingy. Just fix the shift arm so we can take it with us when we park. We could market that puppy. Maybe have a "custom" belt hanger for the shift bar. 8) 8)

Let me think ??? ??? Now what do we do for the poor guys with the automatic? Hummm, back to the drawing board.

Reminds me off my "88 ford. A buddy and I were in Vegas for the NFR and saw someone we had to talk to, I speed shifted the pig , 7.3 natural with a hot pump, it belched smoke and the shifter came off in my hand!!!!! :-[I drove around Vegas shifting it with the 2" stub that was left. Still got the scar. :'(
Couldn't find the ford dealer so I wheeled into a Ace Hardware and bought a 1''X12'' galv. nipple, cap and coupler, slipped it over the stub and off we went.. We called that our redneck anti-theft device. With a added anti-car jacking device, the foot long piece off pipe.
That was good week.........
