Donaldson 51"

How did you guys get the 51" on you quad cab short boxes? 51" seems like it should be half my truck....Do I need to weld hangers right on the muffler? Am I retarded and I need to run a 40"?

I had the 51" Donaldson on my 05 shortbed. It will fit, just a little tight. The 41" Donaldson sounds better to me. I have the 41" on now. The 51" has a fluttery sound to it..HTH..Justin

I'm interested in this comparison as well. Is the 41" louder, or just better/deeper tone? How would you characterize the difference?

Any change in drone at highway speeds with the 41" relative to the 51"? I really don't want fluttery, but I'm not looking for loud either. You're not the first to mention fluttery in regard to the 51". The 41" is slightly less restrictive so that's a plus.

Thanks!

I have the 51" on mine and get no drone when towing(heavy or light) or running empty. I believe the 41 is just a touch louder. check youtube...guys have posted sound recordings of the mufflers. Should give you a basic idea of what each sounds like.

I had a little bit of flutter with my 51", but since I had to put my cat back on it sounds good. Just drove to Oregon up 101 and it was fine.

Dude, just run the 40". I just put one on and it does not sound much louder than stock. I have the BHAF intake set up. The muffler makes a little rumble but was not as much as I was expecting. I am thinking of guttin the kitty for some extra throat. My local muffler shop installed mine for $75 and used the stock hangers. If your looking for a bit more than stock go with the 40. I would guess that the 51 would be just a smidge quieter.
