The Dodge keyless entry thing...making copies

Alright, I need at least one more copy of one of my keys. My truck has the keyless entry and the wireless lock/unlock is built into the key.

I believe I've read that I can't take my key to the local hardware store to have copies made....is that true? If so, is there anyway to get a copy of one of my keys made w/o the wireless electronics on it? TIA

Most locksmiths will have a Sentry key in stock to fit Dodge vehicles and they can program them as well. However, you can program a new Sentry key as long as you currently have two working Sentry keys.

If you just want a lock out key, any hardware store can cut you a blank. But, this key will not allow the truck to run. It will start and run for 2 seconds and then shut down. It will also throw code P0513 which will self clear after a few starts with the normal Sentry key(s).

Hope this helps!

Appreciate your help. I found a place on eBay that sells a pair of the Sentry keys for about 30 bones. I'll go that route.

Do just like 06Ram said. Make your self a lock-out key.

Untill you get your keys off of eBay go to your local hardware store or key maker and search for a blank key for a Dodge, Chrysler or Jeep from the last ten years. Compare the groove on the key to your original key. Then have them cut you a spare using your original. This will be your lock-out key. It will not start the truck with the Sentry system, but it will open the doors. Now if you do not have the Dodge Sentry System installed then it may start the truck.

Just remember that Sentry Keys have a radio chip built into them. These are not the same has have the remote fob with the door lock/unlock buttons, which are now built into the 06 and 07 keys. Usually, the Sentry keys will be a different color. Mine are gray because I drive an 05, where as the regualar (Non - Sentry) keys were black for the 03-05 model years.

I also did not use the dealer to program my Extra Sentry Keys and Key Fob. I used the Customer Learn Function to do both. You shoud be able to find the instructions in your owners manual under the topic of your keys for the truck. If not PM me and I will post the directions for you. And according to my 06 ram manual this feature is still available on the 06. The only catch is you are only allowed up to four remote fob and eight sentry keys. And the Keys are non tranferable from one vehicle to another. So you can not sell them used, like you would any way once they were cut .
