Here in South Carolina I see alot more Ram 1500's then Chevy 1500s or Ford F150's. The F250 by far out numbers the Dodge and the Chevys in the 2500 arena. I don't see too many Chevy's at all in any model. I was working in driveway counting the diesels go by and only 1 out of 7-8 was a Dodge the rest were fords.

FWIW, my SO 47RE has the 11.5" rear.

Lots of Ford's (F-150's) around here in the Minneapolis area, but there is a Ford plant here so that maybe part of it. Not that many Diesels that I have seen per se' either way, but it IS "cold" Minnesota....
All of my friends & neighbors love the Crew Mega cab & cant belive how much room there is. The boat puller crowd loves the cab & Diesel....
Havent seen another Crew Mega cab gas or Diesel yet on the road anywhere...

Wow....Ok I stand corrected. I thought all of the 47RE equipped tranny 3rd gen trucks got the 10.5 rear. Thanks. I guess there is no DEFINATE pattern to Dodge's build sheets.

You forgot the all important front amber clearance lights that you get with the 3500 (at least in 05 it was that way) Kind of humerous that there is not more difference between the two models.

I saw a real interesting article several months back that listed the top selling vehicles but don't remember if it was for 2004 or 2005. I would have NEVER believed it. Three of the top 4 selling vehicles are pick em ups. Went like this

Ford trucks 980,000
Chevy trucks 650,000
Camry 600,000
Dodge trucks 500,000

When they said trucks they meant the combined line like the "Ford F Series" so it was toy trucks and real trucks combined. It did NOT include vans and large SUVs as trucks.

Then a financial article I was reading a couple of weeks ago said that Dodge had just overtaken Chevy in the HD truck market for 2nd place. It didn't mention what percentage of the total market Dodge/Chevy had. It did say that approx. 3/4 of the 2500/3500 Dodges had CTD.

Interesting, when you build a 2500 on the Dodge site and select the CTD it shows a 10.5" axle and no option for the 11.5. Also if you select specifications it shows 10.5" and no option for the 11.5. The 3500 SRW shows only the 11.5.

response to blord...

I have to admit my company has 400 fleet vehicles & I help out on the ordering & maint program Ford is easy to work with ordering etc..Chev is a pain in the fanny. We have had better "luck" with the F250 than the 150. Explorer tranny's are junk. That full time all wheel drive w limited slips in the rear end is really trouble...
I think Ford sells a lot through the fleets. Is that good or bad dont know more isnt necessarily better...I was a GM guy for 25 years b4 I went to CTD. I dont know why but I think GM is in serious trouble. Too many yes men bean counters running the show as the ship sinks...Dodge is darn lucky they landed the CTD motor and took a few other risks they would be on the ropes too...

I know that site can be confusing. I have tried to build trucks on it in the past and some of the options/packages/standard equipment stuff doesn't jive.

I am just guessing here........but on your comment above I believe they are giving you the standard equipment on a 2500.....and when you add the Cummins Engine option...it automatically upgraded the axle to 11.5, as part of the cost of the Cummins. It just doesn't automatically show up on their site when you do that.

I could be wrong, but doesn't the SRW 3500 only come with the Cummins? Therefore automatically providing the 11.5'' gear as standard equipment.

Maybe for the hemis, but otherwsie you gotta look at the glovebox sticker or do a VIN readout; I have a SO with the 11.5in axle. I'll guess that the SO with autos had the 10.5in, while the sticks had the 11.5in.

I don't really know. On the 2500 selecting CTD or auto/manual tranny doesn't make any difference. It still shows 10.5. When you go to the summary screen it also shows 10.5.

Maybe things changed in 06 and they were trying to save a buck or maybe their website is screwed up.

I would guess that you could put a Cummins in a 1500 truck, but it would definately be a strain on the stock components. You would have to basically rebuild the whole truck to handle the extra weight. Remember the Cummins weighs right about 1000lbs by itself. Personally, I would just get a short bed, single cab 2500 and go from there.
I didn't know you could get a short box, single cab 2500???

I thought you could. I don't actually recall ever seeing one though. I know I have seen long bed reg. cabs.

Most people are going to choose the quad cab.

But if you are trying to make an all out race truck and need to save weight I just figured the short bed, reg. cab would be the way to go.......if it is available. (As opposed to trying to strengthen the frame on a 1500 truck to handle the cummins)
