Yeah half tons tow well if you're just around 5,000lbs IMO.... Although they'll pull more if needed.

Around here last summer it was cheaper than Regular Gas.

yea LOL! china is who we owe most of our national debt to. and its not the presidents fault that our national debt is currently $9,404,927,294,509,02 and when he went into office our country actually had a surplus of funds or that the ecconomy is in the crapper or that people cant afford to buy a home or medical care or that we are at war in iraq, yada yada yada. yea its all just b.s. wer'e in way better shape than when clinton was in office... I would still keep a diesel truck though just because I dont like working on vehicles all the time.

Well, here in NH: Gas is at $3.09 and diesel is at $4.05

The diesel advantage is long gone.

Look at the new Chevy trucks with the 5.4L or 6.0L. I believe they get better milage than the Hemi.

The "home heating oil" excuse only works in the Winter time. There will be a convienant "refinery explosion", or "terrorist bomb", or "uprising in Nigeria", or (insert phony news story) ... that will keep diesel/gas up and up and up.

Oh, and don't forget the "Its the driving season", BS line.

If only we could have one of those small Toyota Tacoma type 4 cyl. diesel trucks here in the US, then there would be a good option for economy and strength for people to choose from.

Had an 04 RC 1500 SLT hemi. Did some light mods drove decent. Best mileage I seen was 16.7mpg highway, and 11mpg city. With the truck in my sig, I get 18.9city, 20.5mpg highway. (Before you call b.s. our gallon is larger in Canada). I wouldn't go back to the Hemi for anything.

As for the MDS or whatever the 4 cyl shutdown is called at 55mph. The planets would have to stay in alignement before that 4cyl shutdown would A- either stay on long enough to do anything or B-even turn on at all.
A little bit of headwind or rolling/gradual grade and that system is garbage.

Get a diesel put 350,000 miles on it drive it as long as you can AFTER it is paid off. When you are on your 3rd hemi tell me which one was cheaper to own overall.

Hey man I think a lot of people disagree with you but this isn't a politics lounge. I have a strong background in Economics from one of the better schools in the nation and think a lot of what you say is propaganda... I think a lot of us would appreciate it if you didn't turn this political .

The best gasser I've driven is a 6.0 chevy. Good engine.

I'd look at them too in crew cab.

I've had a Hemi and I know this is a dodge site but I'd prefer the 6.0 especially in a work truck. The power is much more linear off idle till around 4,000 rpms when it starts dropping off.

Thanks for all your input.

I'll probably stick with the diesel.

When I first bought my truck my friends asked why do I need so much truck if I didn't have anything heavy to pull. I said, some day I will have something heavy to pull. 6 months later I was the owner of a 30' 5th wheel w/ a GVW of about 12k lbs. Even before then I towed one or two heavy items for the very friends questioning my reasoning for buying the Cummins power in the first place.

I had 6.0 chevy and never got better than 12mpg. Towing was worse. I just sat down and ran some quick numbers since I'm looking for a newer truck. 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel to be exact. If you had 2 identical trucks and one was a Dodge Diesel and the other a Hemi. If the diesel got an average of 17mpg and the Hemi 12. You could get 510 miles on 30 gallons for the diesel and 360 miles on 30 gallons for the Hemi. Here in Pa the cost of diesel is $4.25 a gallon and gas is $3.29 a gallon. To go the same miles in the gas truck it would take an additional 12.5 gallons so that is 42.5 gallons to 510 miles for a cost of $139.83. The diesel would cost $127.50 for the same 510 miles. Looks like for me it is diesel all the way. I swore that after owning my first diesel I would never buy another gas truck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A friend of mine has an 07 1500 QC hemi 4x4. If he behaves, he'll get 17 highway but his mpgs drop like a rock elsewhere.

My heavier truck gets that around town and over 20 highway. If gas hit's $4 in the next few months, do you think it will ever go below $3 again? Me either.

The demand for Hemi trucks is going to drop, especially when diesels go in 1/2 tons in two years. I'd keep your diesel, fwiw.

Im going to disagree, I had a 6.0L and it had terrible piston slap, got 13mpg at best and couldnt tow 9000lbs to save its life
