I hope that I don't jinx myself here but when it comes time for new battries I'll go with the stockers. I still have the originals....thats 7 yrs and 275k. I just had them tested and they "look great" according to the mech. who tested them. I'll keep an eye on them this winter though as I hate that broke down feeling. HTH

All 3 of my rigs, 05 CTD, 03 4runner, and 02 Jetta all have original batts. I am going to replace them all this fall as I don't want them to die at the wrong time.

I replaced the original battery in my wifes 03 Mazdaspeed Protege last week for the same reason.

33 months and 46k miles and my 08 has needed to be jumped twice in the course of the past 3 days. The first time was after having the radio on for app. 1.5 hrs. and the 2nd after the hood was open/light on for app. 45 minutes. I'm going to clean terminals tonight and then drive it a bit to test it out. If they're bad, this is clearly the worst pair of batteries that I've ever had.

Both times, after jumping, I've had a CEL. I check for codes and none appear. After 2 or 3 starts, the CEL diasppears. What's up with that?

And what if just one battery is bad? Can just the bad one be replaced is is that not a good practice?

Never just replace just one battery. You always replace in pairs.

My dad had one battery go bad on his F-250 in May. The truck cranked very slowly, but still ran normally. Even after using the radio for a couple of hours (I was installing a new nav deck) it didn't need a jump. I'd check not only your terminals, but ground connections as well.

I just don't understand this - - I had to replace my batteries last week - - they are only eight years old. Wow, give me a break.

Having used Interstate with great results, I went back to them for replacement. I put in the Mega-tron - - 85 month guarantee with 850 cranking amps. Paid $119 plus tax each installed. That should outlast how long I will own this truck.

I always enjoy reading battery threads.. comments like "this/that battery is so much better.." .. too funny....

Unless you're running auxiliary equipment like winches or snowplows, our batteries serve one purpose... starting your truck..

It doesn't matter what new batteries you install, they will always be "better" than the tired old ones they replaced...

Me, I choose to save money and buy the cheapest batteries around, and I will go to Costco for their warranty.. In AZ the heat kills them no matter what.

To spend $400 on batteries is only buying hype... I don't need expensive batteries, I will put that money into something that matters like tires, or oil filters, etc..

To a point I agree. But I spend a lot of time away form civilization and don't want my battery to fail on me at the least opportune time. So I don't mind spending a little more money on a battery, I have seen the difference when the truck and battery are cold soaked.

yeah, I don't disagree... in some circumstances it warrants a gel cell or AGM battery for sure... but, most of these posts are just ridiculous...

I've done my homework when it comes to my RV batteries, and there you don't want to compromise.. But again, I went with Costco's 6v 220Ah Golf Cart Batteries. Nobody can convince me a 2x $$ Trojan is any better..

To each their own...
The main reason I chose AGM batteries was the lack of corrosion at the terminals and elsewhere. After seven years, the battery cables had to be replaced entirely as they had corroded from the inside...
I have had the AGM batteries installed for three years now, and not a trace of corrosion anywhere!
I also run a Webasto for hours on end in the winter, and I am wanting to be certain that the truck will still start at the end of the day...

AGM batts are great units, but man, they are 60 pounds! Stockers about 45, and the Optima red tops 37. I am in the same boat as AH64 with my 2005, but am considering the Red Tops.

It's all personal choice, I will spend money on a good battery. If I wasn't hauling around a trailer and making long trips, I would go cheap. I had a set of older Optimas (when they were good) that lasted 12 years before they started acting up.

You should laugh at the oil threads and leave the batteries alone
