with only 2700 miles, your engine is nowhere near broken in. Just be patient, these things take a while to break in, but once they do, mileage (and power) increases are noticeable.

Maybe it is film from the crankcase. I noticed it was just barely red and doesnt stain what-so-ever. The leek only leve a puddle as big as my fist. The only reason I believed it to be trans fluid was due to the fact it seems to be running down the front of the trans and is faintly red.

When I first bought the truck, I got 13-15 in the city and 19-20 highway. Now, with about 8,000 miles on it, I'm getting 15-16 city and 20+ highway.

A few hard pulls and a few long road trips seemed to help out the mileage. Have you pulled hard with it yet? Are your tires properly inflated?

Ive almost never tow. The only load i have are dirtbikes in the back. I did get a new job that will take a bunch or commuting. Im sure that will help the break in a ton.

I think the sticker on the pump said 20% soy, so it was far from 100% bio.

There was an article in the Tennessean (Nashville's daily paper) about two guys who are spending $5 million to build a plant that will process chicken fat into biodiesel!! It's close to a big Tyson plant so will have lots of raw material. Went on to talk about the same type efforts to use other animal fat in producing biodiesel. Cow fat, hog fat, etc. Wonder if vegetarians will refuse to use animal fat bio in their diesels?

I was getting around 17mpg (hand calculated) until the winter fuel came out and the temps got cold, now right at 15. Takes MUCH longer for the truck to warm up, more time at idle too. I noticed the automatic jump to 1K comes on a lot at startup.

I had the 'poor mileage' flash - that's what I got too - worse mileage. I was in recently to the dealer and they did the flash for 'white smoke' because I complained about the worse mileage since the last flash. Got my 17mpg back. I'm staying clear of any other flashes related to fueling from them.

The Antifreeze that's put in our truck is Orange/red. If it was trans fluid or oil it would stain.

I bet it's leaking out of the overflow tube and trikiling down the back of the motor..

A bunch of the 06s have a coolant leak in between the turbo and the block. There is a small coolant hose with two clamps that just needs to be tightened up. That may be where its dripping a bit....

My third CTD and they all got and get better than 15 unless I am pulling. My 06 even with 35s is getting just under 20 MPG with a 50/50 city hwy split. Mind you that is only with out rabbit starts and keeping max under 70. . .I travel farm raods for my commute, 50/60 max typical. I only get to make smoke once in a while. . . .

I did notice MPG drops with temp here in Colorado, take a long time to get up to temp. . . . .so. . . .I got some of it back when I limited air flow acroos the radiator for the winter.

I just filled up for the first time since October….all city driving, mostly to the gym, grocery store etc.

534 miles and 34.0 “topped off” gallons calculates to 15.7 MPG. The truck has 9600 miles and is bone stock. I think the G56 6 speed has an advantage around town, whereas the automatic does better on the highway with the higher geared overdrive.

First of your truck in not even broken-in yet with only 2700 miles on it so your mpg will be lower then one that is broke in. Also city stop and go is a killer on MPG as it takes alot to get this hunk of steel moving.

Want to help break it in faster? Then load the thing up with ton of weight in the bed or hook up to a 4-8K trailer and drive it as far and as long as you can non stop. You could just pull a load or leave a ton in the bed for 2-4 weeks and your engine would like you a lot better too. I think one reason many get poor mpg is because their engine was not broke in correctly by being worked no harder then driving around empty 95% of the time.

My start to break-in my CTD, with around 1200 miles I loaded it up with about 1000 Lbs in the bed and went on vacation. We drove the truck 30 hours non-stop (except for fuel) to Oregon. We did almost the same thing on the way back except we had one more person, a few hundred extra pounds of weight in the bed and took a 200-mile detour drive in to and around Yellowstone Park. This was my way of starting to break it in. My best MPG was 20.5 and lowest was 15.5 due to a tank bad fuel from Pilot in SD. For the whole 4700-mile trip it averaged 18.53 mpg. Remember that your CDT is a heavy-duty engine that was made to work hard and not be run all the time doing nothing.
