Ditto on the weird noise here too! Seems like a common problem. At first I thought it was my imagination. Glad to here others are having the same problem. Thanks for the tips!:D

Took mine in friday, dealer found my problem to be a connecting rod. He could not explain why, after just over 20k it went bad. They sorta scratched their heads during the test drive
as to where the sound could be coming from. Only after they got it up on the lift did they find it loose.

What kind of connecting rod?

My noise comes somehow from the Nerf Bars. I hear what I think is the same noise when I step on the bars. And, I dont think the noise was there before I added them. I don't know if maybe I have overtightened the bolts or need to put something on the rubber pieces.

when in the vehicle, the sound is hard to locate, as it sounds like the body is loose on the frame. You can't replicate it outside the vehicle by rocking it. The sound seemed to carry midway down the cab. Once all the obvious was checked (dirty bushings, loose bolts and panels) it was put up on the lift where the mechanic found the right tie rod loose. They then had me come over and visually observe the mechanic moving the tie rod quite a bit and replicating the sound just not as pronounced. The left side was fine and did not move. They ordered the part friday and it should be in today, all covered under warrenty including the wheel alignment. No explaination as to why it went bad so soon. Thats all I can give you.

I have no doubt that you may have had a problem with your tie rod. But I hear the noise when I step on my Nerf Bar or get into a slight frame twist situation when driving slow. And I don't recall hearing the noise prior to installing the ner bars........so I am pretty much positive that it has something to do (in my case) with the nerf bar and not my tie rods.

Hope you get it fixed. Only wanted to add my 2 cents about a problem that sounded somewhat like mine from the initial post on page 1.

My noise is a bang/pop from the more towards the rear of the truck.Like under the BACK seat.

Texas CTD - I have the same symptoms but with no nerf bars . An entrance to the strip mall by me is a right turn onto an incline and the rear slider sounds like it is going to go . I believe it has something to do with the rigid frame , wait and see I guess .

Had the tie rod replaced yesterday by the dealer and my creaking problem went completely away. Truck steers like new again. I should have noticed the change in the steering from the start, then again maybe not as I felt it was part of the break-in. Still getting acustom to driving a dodge vice chevy.

I have/had the clunk from under the rear seat/in the bed. I don't have any bolt on equipment except a toneu cover. And the truck only has 1650miles on it, so i sure hope its not a tie rod end. But either way, for some reason its been quiet lately and haven't heard it make any noise. So who knows, i'm still looking. **EDIT**: I forgot to mention that the noise is most pronounced when it is cold out, 35 degrees and colder and only when making a right hand turn into a driveway or bumpy corner as others have mentioned.

Mine is much more pronounced and frequent in cooler temps.20s and low 30s on a right turn and a incline or bump etc.it bangs POW.In warmer temps its very rare if at all.Be rolling and shift to 3rd gear turn hard right and hit a small pothole on the edge of the road with rear wheels in cold temps and POW you'd think someone under the right side of rear seat/bed area hit it with a sledge hammer one quick hard blow.
