computer test

Is there any way to test a computer to see if it is bad?
I have 04 2500 auto 4 x 4 diesel dodge. Cranks but won't start.

first thing is to check for codes

I cycle the key 3 times stopping in the on postion which normally get me the codes.
showed no codes this time. So thought that was strange.
Thanks for responding. What is my next step?

Borrow a real code reader and check for active and pending codes.
