Cold Air Intake

Looking at 2 different ones. The S&B or the K&N 77 metal intake kit. Please give any feed back on these and if the performance increase is as advertised. Thanks . Want better acceleration and better milage. In time will add the Quadzilla economy and towing chip.

Haven't heard much about S&B but I would stay away from K&N. AFE seems to be proven here along with a couple others.

I had a chance to look at an AFE intake last week, and I have to say there's really not much difference between that and a stock intake with:

1. 3-D high performance drop-in filter (I think AEM makes them now? I get confused bwteen those acronyms)
2. Gutted intake tube

The aftermarket intake used the regular old fender inlet as did the stock intake. It just had a larger surface area and a smooth tract to the turbo. I think this same effect can be created with the stock airbox pretty easily.

Just installed my AFE stg 2 last night, it rocks! That turbo sounds like a jet taking off now and it looks great. Install is easy, start to finish including putting away tools and all took less than 1 hour and that was with checking and re-checking all the connections.

FWIW, they are all about the same. I just heard AFE was the loudest and I love the sound of the turbo.

It's a bit pricey, but it is a very quality piece with a HUGE filter. The stg 2 tube is like a black tuba horn.

Did I feel a difference in acceleration, no, but it's also 101F here in PHX, and I have a full stock exhaust, but not for long!

If your looking for a direct replacement, I replaced the stock dropin with a Amsoil EaA 189 and gutted the tube between the filter and the turbo.
The first thing I noticed was the drop in EGT tremps.
Im happy with the filter.
I would stay away from the K&N though.

I went with the Airaid jr. It is a drop in replacement filter w/cleaning kit and a torque tube.I found a new one on E-bay for just over a 100 clams.

This is an Airraid dropin after 8000 miles.
Thats why I went to Amsoil EaE 189.
The padding in the pleats was the prefilter that was on the bottom of the filter.

Was browsing info about air filters and found something called a Fram Air Hog. Looks a lot like K&N. They brag themselves up pretty good. What do you guys think of them???

IF you are looking at a replacement intake vs filter, then for the money, S&B appears to be a good deal. I don't know how well it filters but my buddy has one and he likes it, said it woke the turbo up a bit. I have the AFE with a cool blue hose and it sings pretty good. As most say here, I would stay away from K&N. Just my $0.02.....
