My self I would not do business with any dealer who wrote down I had replaced the radio when doing LOF. I hope Spokane has more then one dealership as your only other choice is to drive to the dealer in ID.

I have a EW on my truck and so far have not use it but the EW has come in handy on my wife's 06 Sebring. My self the only EW I would buy is from Dodge and not some aftermarket company.

With the cost to repair things getting so ridiculous these days, I'm seriously considering it.

However, extended warranties generally have a terrible reputation. Plenty of stories out there about declined coverage, fine print that excludes whatever happens to be wrong, etc.

I had one dealer email me the warranty policy. I read it front-to-back and it looks reasonable except for two things:

1) It covers components that fail due to "defect in materials or workmanship". Strictly interpreted, a part that simply wears out within 7/70 could be denied. What if that gear in the rear differential didn't have a "defect" but simply wore out within 7/70? What happens then?

2) It denies coverage when there have been "modifications not approved or recommended by the manufacturer". I replaced the factory radio and speakers. I installed a spray-in bed liner. I replaced the broken rear window with an aftermarket unit. Strictly speaking, I've "modified" the truck with parts not approved nor recommended by Chrysler. You and I know they have nothing to do with the failure of a $4000 transmission, but could this be used to deny coverage?

Interesting note: Every time I have the dealer change the oil - EVERY TIME - the technician writes on the paperwork that I've installed an aftermarket radio. It's nothing special, no big woofers or extra wiring, it plugs directly into the existing wiring harness, but it's odd that they mention it in writing every single time they touch the vehicle... almost like they're laying a paper trail to cover themselves down the road.

With all that: Anyone here ever buy a Chrysler Extended Warranty? How has it worked out for you?

Thanks!
I have no experience with chryslers ew, but I did get a Zurich warranty and they replaced my tranny and torque converter no problem! Definately check them out. I'm glad I did!!!

Like was said previously, EW are set-up to benefit the seller of such like a Casino. It is about luck, how you use your equipment, etc.

Personally, I've never come close to utilizing the EW's I've purchased to the break even point. However, once the EW is up, that is when I would need it.

I hate depending on luck because any luck I might have would be bad.

EW isn't worth the paper it's printed on. $1500 can buy a lot of parts, or even work at a shop with a realistic rate. I mean if you have a good dealer who you really know it might be worth it, but most won't replace something unless they HAVE to, and I can assure you they don't treat your truck well, and cut ANY corners they can. Not to mention, how long before they would actually fix it? 2 or 3 weeks without your truck? The last time I took my truck to the dealer for an alignment, they drove my truck with the frigging E-brake on, I know I don't want those idiots touching my truck

If your worried about not being capable to replace parts, what could go on your truck you can't do? You've got a solid 6 speed, rear end going is almost unheard of before 70k. Only things you might have go would be ball joints, U joints etc and you don't need any special tools or mechanical knowhow to do these. Also they just replace them with the crappy ones again that could go at 71k. I mean there are other things that could go, but nothing that's very hard to replace

They sell the warranty to make money, they aren't trying to be nice.

One thing to remember is that after 3/36 only the engine has a 5/100 warranty and nothing else, like ball joints, U-joints, trans, AC etc. Also have you shopped on line for a Dodge warranty? I did and got my dealer to match a 7/100 warranty price of $1850 and that was a lot less then what they wanted for the same one.
