i agree with all the fellas.the avalanche has ruined our colorado hockey team with the name!get the dodge-even if it was more money, get what you want.look at the resale on both.my wife and kids all ride in my truck-all steel, and its now quite enough for no complaints.be a man,get the mans vehicle.dont be one of those guys that says"I RUN THINGS IN MY HOUSE!"and we all would say"YEAH,THE VACUME AND THE DISHWASHER!"make the right choice-your choice!

Re:Can't Decide between Chevy and Dodge

The Avalanche is not the ugliest thing on the road that I can see anyway. The Hummer isn't all that good and that thing that is touted as "quite possibly the most versatile vehicle on the planet" is the ugliest. I can't even remember the name of it. (I think it's an Olds, that goofy looking thing that folds out into a camper)

You really have to look at what you need here from a practical standpoint. If you can't afford both, then you must go with the vehicle that will best fit you needs as far as towing, roominess, versatility and so on. Yes it would be nice to have the Dodge for the reliability of the diesel and all that but unless you put a cap on the back, there is a lot of wasted space. I doubt the Chevy will get the mileage or last as long and it won't hold resale like the diesel but that is down the road a ways and you need to get what works for you right now. (not to mention the fact that you need to keep wifey happy). I am die hard Dodge and have been since I was knee high to a grasshopper. I have had a Dodge diesel since the first year they came out and even had two at the same time for a while (89 and 95). But I don't have to satisfy the wifey vehicle wise, she has her own little ride.

This was probably no help but good luck choosing anyway.

Re:Can't Decide between Chevy and Dodge

I have to agree. In fact it looks like almost the entire line of GM trucks and SUV designs came out of the same design group. After the pos Aztec debacle, I thought those guys would be out looking for employment. The Avalance and the pickups are 2 ugly designs. That styling even runs over onto the Caddy Escalade. I was at Home Depot, and there's a guy loading up an brand new Avalance with pressure treated decking. That poor thing was almost sitting on the axle. I gave the guy a weak smile as I idled past him and kind of gave me this "what the $&%# are looking at" glance.

By the way, there are 2 more Hummer's in the works; an H3 and H something-or-other. The H3 is going to be smaller than the existing models.

Buy one of each and make everyone happy. You only go around once.

Re:Can't Decide between Chevy and Dodge

First of all I love the looks of the new H2, my dad has one. It is definately NOT an offroad vehicle, but an SUV with alot of style and class, that gets ALOT of second looks and stares. I like my dodge better an I constantly remind him of that
about the ugli.....i mean avalanche, one of my real good friends is a chebby dealer in louisville and the avelanche is a nice vehicle, not a truck, not a very good SUV, but it does ride nice (my dad had a momenatary lapse in judgement and test drove one) it is NOTHING special at all. except you can "change for a dollar" or some rediculous crap...i dispise this vehicle because it has been in some of the worst commercials on tv

Re:Can't Decide between Chevy and Dodge

I personally don't like the look of the new Chevy front end; that evil bowtie look. I also totally despise cladding; it looks cheesy and childish and I'm willing to bet that in a few years it will be warped and faded and look like crap. I think Chevy is coming out with a non-cladded version of the Avalanch, though. The midgate I see as a sure-fire leak, if not immediately then after a few uses. I also wouldn't want to haul anything long (like boards) with the midgate down; get in an accident or get rear ended and you'll wish you could still feel your legs after your stop your load with your spine.

Anyone who believes that the Avalanche is the ugliest car on the road has not seen an Aztec. I like the lines and the profile on the Avalanche, but there is way too much plastic on the exterior for my taste.

It's your party, get what you want. My wife calls my Ram the biggest case of testosterone poisioning she has ever seen.

Good luck.

Re:Can't Decide between Chevy and Dodge

I own an Avalanche, I'm buying a Ram.

I went from a 2 door Tahoe to the Avalanche, and it was a good move for me at the time. More room for the kids, towed the boat well. For an overnight fishing trip to the coast, you can leave your rods, tackle etc in the back, locked up and dry.

The 8.1 is a power house, but it hunts for gears @ 65mph towing 7000# (6mpg). The problem with boats is they keep getting bigger, and while I have no concerns regarding the engine, I'll soon be towing 10K, and I don't think the tranny will make it much past warrantee.

I'm expecting much more from the 3500 with the HO and 6 speed. While the fit and finish of the Dodge is spartan by comparison, reliability and torque should be the first order of business in a serious tow vehicle. I only wish DC would develop a 3 piece hard cover for the bed like the Avalanche has. It is far superior in strength and ease of use to any other I've seen.

As far as off roading is concerned, the 16" rims, small tires, and low slung chassis will get you in trouble in mud and sand. Don't know about the snow, I've only seen it in pictures.

Good luck with your decision.

Re:Can't Decide between Chevy and Dodge
I had a HD 2500 diesel on order and just a week before it arrived at the dealer I got to ride in my buddy's Chevy Avalance. I know, I know, the two trucks don't have anything in common, and some people think the Avalanche is not even a truck, but I wish I hadn't seen the stupid thing. Now, I can't make up my mind! They're both about the same price (within $500 and both at invoice price), but the Chevy has a lot more extras included (like Onstar, XM radio, full leather heated seats, sunroof, etc.). But, it doesn't have a diesel engine and it doesn't look as cool as the Ram. When the Ram arrived last weekend I went and took it for a test drive. It was NICE! I had to hide my grin the whole time so my wife wouldn't see. I've test driven the Avalanche and it's nice also, but makes you feel like you're riding a car not a truck. Of course, the wife prefers the Avalanche. I can't decide what to get now. Avlanche with all the bells and whistles or Dodge with the diesel for better fuel economy. :'( :'(
remeber u have to comapare apple to apples and oranges to oranges. The reason for the same price but better amenities is cause u are not buying a diesel. The chevy with the diesel in a pickup on the top of the line truck and comparable equiped is about 7,000 more list the dodge was 40k and the chevy was 47k. Now with the price of fuel and the milage difference between the gas and diesel you will close the gap on the number of mile u have to drive in order to justify the cost of the diesel.
I like the avalanche but dont consider them comparable trucks.
Im sure what ever truck u buy u will be happy, good luck.
Dan

Re:Can't Decide between Chevy and Dodge

Max, did you have a deposit on the Ram? Will the dealer refund all of it? Does the same dealer sell the Chev? Why not spend the extra and get a Duramax if you like the Chev amenities?
