Can cheap tires cause death wobble?

I have an 03 2500, diesel, reg cab, 8 ft bed. I bought it used with 21,000 miles on it. now has 27,000 miles on it. When I bought it the dealer had just replaced the tires to sell it. The problem is they put on the correct size but they are not E rated, not even D rated. I think they are 6 ply tires. Could my death wobble be due to these tires? I only get death wobble when going at least 75mph, but it sucks. I am going to take it in to the dealer since it is still under warranty but I am not hopeful they will do much. I was thinking of selling it because of this, but I really like it otherwise.

I know bad tires would do it. Had a work van that would do it when you hit a sharp bump above 55 mph. Took it to a few places and each one had a different idea. Tie rods, steering connections, shocks ect. Then one guy just laughed at me and told me to get some good tires and I'd be fine......I did. Never a problem after.

Short answer, YES! We had a customer come in the other day with a 04' 2500 truck with about 50k miles complaining of a death wobble like symptom. I happend to notice he had brand new tires, said he just got em couple days ago. I looked at the side wall and they were darned old 4-ply passenger tires, instead of the 10-ply LT's it should have had. He took it back to the tire store, got a set of 10-ply's put on, and has had no problem since.

Yes they will! My dad had a set of wore out michelin's that caused the problem. When he put new tires on the problem went away.

thanks for the replies. I am going to get some real tires. I am also going to replace the steering stabilizer. I think something has worn out becauset the d/w is happening at lower and lower speeds. now it happens at around 65 and before I had to be over 75 to get it.

You might want to press the dealer to replace the tires.
I can't beleive , with all the problems there have been with tire failures, roleovers, deaths and lawsuits that a dealer would expose themselves like that.
Good luck.
